It would be great if posters on here can tell us the cost of churro as a comparison, from around the country, my original post said the ones in Leicester Square cost a bargain £10, then on the weekend I noticed the ones at the 02 were £9.50. When churro are served they go into a large paper cone, what I did notice is that the first one that goes in is a bent one this fills out the whole bottom of the cone, they then put a large straight one in, then to fill the top they simply put small bits in, this fills the top, so it looks like you get more than you actually get, it’s smoke and mirrors. A complete rip off.

Read it and weep Southerners. I don't know which Wetherspoons you've been in! If you're not fussy you'd have little trouble getting two pints for a fiver in most of the ones I've visited. I'm more familiar with Merseyside but I lived in Manchester for a couple of years and, unless things have changed radically since then, Mancunians wouldn't be spending that much more for their ale than Scousers. I don't drink myself but I keep my eyes open and whenever I'm in a 'Spoons for a cheap breakfast, or to meet people, there seems to be at least one beer around £2 a pint. £5, if they sell beer that dear, would definitely be a premium brand. I'm not going to post a link in case I fall foul of advertising rules on the board, but if you google you can see that they currently have a promotion on Angelo Porretti lager (4.8%) at £3.99 even in that London. Back on topic: I haven't visited a Christmas Market since before the pandemic. To be honest I've always found them dreadfully dull but Manchester sticks in my mind because they were not so much crowded as cramped. St Ann's Square (back of the Royal Exchange) was bad enough but Albert Square was ridiculous. The stalls were so close together that you couldn't stand back far enough to see what they were selling. |

Went to Stratford upon Avon last year. Advertised as a Victorian market it was very bad, like a cheap market as it did include a sheets, towels, duvets shop and vapes and lighters. Had a very tacky funfair with very loud modern music. It wasn't tip top hip hop by any means. Unimpressed I was looking at the local press and someone had written in saying a world heritage site and this is what we get for our market at Christmas. Anyway, trying Bath and Bristol this year Skip Bristol, Bath is far better. Bristol is just the chalets spread out over the shopping streets, lots of food and sweets. Bath has a better variety. |

That build your own crumble idea, along with a lot of what’s on offer, has migrated from a place on Borough Market if I’m not mistaken. I’ve seen it on Instagram.

Duke of Yorks Sq has always been lovely at Christmas, if expensive. Last year they had free horse and carriage rides but I don’t think that’s happening this year.

At Sheffield's poor excuse for a Christmas market, chirros are £6 with sugar and cinnamon and £7 with everything else. Crumbles are £6.50, or £7.50 for the weekly 'special'. A Yorkshire pudding wrap is £10. Like the market itself, I can only apologise for such a pathetic attempt at a price list. After spending all afternoon stuffing his face, supposedly in the name of research, it's no wonder BurlyBeaR didn't have his dinner until right late t'other night. When I was waiting for the free city centre bus a few days ago, the woman in front had a few chirros left in her cardboard tub. The bus driver wouldn't let her board with "hot food". Poor love had to put £2.50's worth in the bin!  |

Having a wander around the Manchester Market sampling the products (strictly for quality control purposes). The build your own crumble stall is doing really good business and I have to say was very nice indeed and hit the spot on a cold winter’s evening.
