Elvis has left the building and Marilyn Monroe has taken residence at the Arches. Strange coincidence is both their mothers names were Gladys. It's a 250 item collection of Ted Stampfer and is another well presented exhibition in this location set out from her childhood to death with a lot of items direct from Marilyn home. It's a poignant collection and a great chance to see rare Marilyn items but is a bit light on film memorabilia, and the tone Can be a bit uneven, it sets her rightly as a woman far more in control of her image and business acumen but doesn't reflect so much the many delays and costar frustrations with her. It also peddles as fact the Marilyn and Joe Dimaggio were going to be engaged on the day she died and married on what turned out to be her funeral which as far as I know has no concrete proof. The gift shop has no photos, postcards or posters for sale and while the guidebook is well presented it's a high cost at £25 for a softball a4 size . While we get photo exhibitions I am not aware the uk has had such a personal memorabilia exhibition for Marilyn. It was quite well attended when I saw it Sunday morning with range of ages but about 75% female visitors so good to see the interest in Marilyn is still strong, worth seeing and will be interesting who the arches have next.
