Ah, as usual, the matinees. A pet gripe of mine. Nuff said. I agree with that gripe! The matinees are often more popular than some of the weekday evenings and matinee audiences have often been given a raw deal! Not sure this is always now the case though. In the original London production, once the alternate system was established as the demands of the role became clear, the principal did the Thursday matinee and Saturday evening. I can still remember the relief at seeing the midweek show (I bunked off from school) as it was the only one for which tickets could be obtained and seeing Elaine Paige's name on the board ... |

I traipsed out to Wimbledon to see this last night, mainly for Emma Hatton who did not disappoint. I knew she had a great voice but I did not know she was such a fine actress. She had it all and then some. The bonus was that it's an excellent production, very clear and intelligent - I much preferred it to the last West End revival. Gian Marco Schiaretti was everything you'd want in a Che and Kevin Stephen-Jones was a convincing Peron. Sarah O'Connor's "Another Suitcase in Another Hall" was gorgeous.
I don't get to see that many touring shows but this one definitely impressed. Highly recommended.

Am seeing the show today, in the theatre now. I have no prior knowlage to the actual story and most of the music, am mainly here for Emma Hatton, who I thought was OK in Wicked but she wasn't right for that role (in my opinion!) But i've heard amazing things about her so I'm looking forward to seeing her in a new role!  |

Interval, and I must say, Emma is pretty great! She is alot better in this than Wicked, vocally this suits her alot more! She struggles a bit doing the big key changes but she is great otherwise! I don't know if I am a fan of the guy playing Che... vocally fine but he is really overracting to a point it is distracting. The raised eyebrows and big arm gestures is a bit much after the tenth time. As for the show itself, its good. Its not my favourite by sny means, but the score has some great moments and the cast are great overall. Another Suitcase in Another Hall being the highlight so far, which was beautifully sung by the aftress playing the mistress. I am enjoying it more than I thought I would! |

Well damn, Emma was pretty stunning in that second Act. She really brought it out of the bag with those songs, the Final Address to Argentina moved me to tears, and even though the stalls was only about 70% full (if that!), Emma recieved a full standing ovation, and deservedly so. She was really great in this show. |

On the other hand, we're told that one of his favourite movies is Sunset Boulevard. Could it be that he actually has some realization of the fact that his bloated sense of himself is really just a sad fantasy?

One thing I kept swaying between throughout the show, are we supposed to like Eva? Because clesrly I was moved by the end of the show, but throughout I swayed between loving her for being a strong female, but disliking her because she is also a bit of a bitch to everyone.  |

I'm sure Argentina and the rest of South America will love being grouped all together as one in the same. It surprises me that someone who claims to be so liberal comes out with so many sweeping comments

So, was at the matinee on Saturday too. Come to think of it, DJ were you in row C stalls, you may have walked past me? Anyway, it's worth catching, solid 4 stars all round. O'Connor smashes "Another Suitcase" (not literally, I mean the song), and Hatton's "Argentina" is the least sincere thing I've ever heard. In a good way. More on my blog later this week. Oh, and my mother had the same dressing table as Evita in the 1970s - except she hadn't tried to disguise hers with spray paint. I wasn't, I was in J5 of the Stalls, but I still may of walked past you at some point. I was in a grey jumper and red trousers if that is any indication haha. Shame, would of been lovely to meet you! I agree with your comments on "Another Suitcase", that was unexpectedly the highlight of the show for me, I thought she absolutely nailed it and sang it beautifully. I hope we see more of her soon on the stage! |

Could anyone see Lara Pulver as Eva one day? She was pretty fabulous in Gypsy, but I wonder if vocally she could sustain a role like Eva for a full run?
