I see it’s only been mentioned a couple of times, but I would definitely put The Grinning Man high up on my list. Probably second only to Mincemeat for me (though admittedly I’ve not seen a number of the British musicals others have listed so will be researching some of those tonight!).

Ahh well it's great you like so much home grown stuff. Yeah TBLT hasn't featured much here. It was an enjoyable evening for me, but maybe not a great musical!

Which of these titles will enter the repertoire and end up getting revived by amateurs and professionals over the next 30 years?
So many lauded shows just fade away.
So which of the titles will persist?

So which of the titles will persist? Very few. But I've been banging on about that for years. Not a UK thing. Same goes for most new Broadway musicals.

Which of these titles will enter the repertoire and end up getting revived by amateurs and professionals over the next 30 years? So many lauded shows just fade away. So which of the titles will persist? I think that eventually 'Operation Mincemeat' will be great for Amateur performance. Like 'The 39 Steps' the huge amount of multi-role work of the original small cast can be relaxed to have a large cast. I notice that the licensing of 'The 39 Steps' to amateurs is very canny with the Full Length version available (2hrs), the 'Abridged Version' (1hr), and what they call the 'Even More Abridged' version (40 mins). 'Operation Mincemeat' could have a short and long version too. 'School Of Rock' famously launched its schools/colleges amateur availability on the same day as the Broadway and then West End openings. I can see that one going great guns for a long time. For me, 'Operation Mincemeat' and 'Everybody's Talking About Jamie' are the strongest new musicals over the last ten years. I left it late to watch '...Jamie' (saw the London tour stop) and the audience reaction from a matinee with loads of schools in was absolutely phenomenal.

I can't believe it's yet to have popped up elsewhere or the lockdown recording released - such a charming show, it would be a huge shame for it to not resurface

Please give us a cast recording A lot of Emma Rice shows do get revived but why not this one? It would fit in very well into Young Vic or Wiltons

It did do Bristol Old Vic with Marc Antolin as lead bumped up from the ensemble when they did it in person with full audiences post pandemic. I remember tuning into the recordings prior; was meant to do a US stint but then run got cancelled. 😞 My favourite show of Rice’s.

1) Groundhog Day 2) Grindr The Opera 3) Operation Mincemeat 4) Police Cops: The Musical 5) Everybody's Talking About Jamie 6) Ride 7) Two Strangers Carry A Cake Across New York. 8) Cake: The Marie Antoinette Playlist 9) String V Spitta 10) Oubliette There's a good few that didn't make the top 10 as well, like Babies, The Unconventionals and Jenny Bede: The Musical, all of which were entertaining at the very least. I've just googled 9 &10. They sound very interesting, very Inside No 9. Certainly ones I'd be interested in seeing. I didn't think it was a musical when I saw it.
