I notice that her IMDb that her one remaining 'upcoming' credit is for A German Life, but is listed as 'In Production'. Hopefully enough was done to be able to give her a final screen farewell and that the film can be finished. Would be so fitting given it was also her final stage role too. I don't think it ever got passed the 'announced' stage to be honest, IMDB is full of inaccuracies. I'm sure Covid made things too complicated to fund/shoot it Jonathan Kent was meant to direct and he's been preoccupied with his Long Day's Journey into Night film of late instead, which I assumed meant A German Life was either off the table or on the back burner.

She was a phenomenal actor and one of the few who gave Olivier as good as he gave.
Aussie comedian Rhys Nicholson posted on Instagram that he hoped Dame Maggie was reunited with her bestie Kenneth Williams for a juicy chat. I hope so too.

An incomparable talent who will be so missed but gave such a wealth of performances for us to remember her by.

Ah, that's a real shame, but makes sense given the pandemic timing.

My most vivid recollections are her West End Edward Albee plays - Three Tall Women, Lady from Dubuque and especially A Delicate Balance.
Such a shame one of her own favourites the Old Vic, Bergman-directed Hedda Gabler was never filmed.

I take it this thread is about extolling how much the late great actress Maggie was.

A sad loss.
Lucky to have seen Maggie Smith once on stage at the Bridge theatre in 2019. There must be some on here that have seen her many times on stage and have some really great memories

Such a shame one of her own favourites the Old Vic, Bergman-directed Hedda Gabler was never filmed. I saw her in those three Albees (I was a student in Cardiff when A Delicate Balance did a pre West End tour and visited the New Theatre - couldn't believe my luck!) and also in The Lady in the Van at the Queen's (now Sondheim). She was sublime. I absolutely loved her performances. She could do high camp (Daphne Castle in Evil Under the Sun never fails to cheer me up) but also heartbreak (The Lonely Passion of Judith Hearne). A sad time with her passing. She was tremendous.

Only saw her on stage once at the NT in "Lady in the Van", when needless to say she was brilliant.

And not forgetting California Suite. ... Her scenes with Michael Caine are what make that film. Both comedy gold and also heartbreakingly poignant as her character endures a lavender marriage. I can't believe it's over five years since A German Life. It feels like yesterday. How blessed we are to have had such a talent.

I only saw her on stage in the Lady from Dubuque and I'm gutted i don't remember that much of it. I don't remember it making much of an impression on me and from memory I don't think her part was on stage a lot?

At Chichester yesterday after the matinee performance, Anthony Calf came on and paid tribute to Dame Maggie and referred to the many productions she had appeared in on that stage. He then asked the audience to give a terrific round of applause in acknowledgement of her great acting career. I thought that was more appropriate than a minute's silence as I usually start counting off the time during silences.

I think there is a photo of her in action in one of the public areas but I am not sure.
There are pics of Dame Judi, Ian McShane, David Jason and others.
But no rooms named after big names other than the Burton Taylor Theatre of course

Slightly stalkerish confession, but two friends and I (all Oxford born and bred) once made an ill judged, tipple fuelled midnight pilgrimage to her childhood home after it was (unwisely?) revealed in full address form in a biography I was reading. Thought it was a great idea at the time, until we arrived and promptly felt like drunk idiots outside a stranger's house, which is exactly what we were. 😅

I'd just like to add that some obituaries have mentioned how she could be sharp with people but I'd like to highlight another side to her. Some years ago my hairdresser was trying on dressing gowns in Debenhams (a department store in Chichester, since closed). She heard an elderly woman say: "You should definately get that one. It suits you. You've got the slim figure for it." When she turned round, it was Dame Maggie Smith.
