Just watched first episode of the new comedy crime thing with David Mitchell
It is rather splendid. Fresh central conceit. Cracking cast. Amazing Beethovian soundtrack.
It's a hit. At least for me

The required suspension of disbelief was too ridiculously high for me. I felt sorry for everyone in the cast other than David Mitchell and AMM who had nothing to play besides looking really thick and incompetent for not realising David Mitchell's performance limitations got very dull a long long time ago. 🦃

I was enjoying the soundtrack but it could not distract me from David Mitchell. Switched off after half an hour

How much is Karl pilkington in this? He the only draw for me, so wondered if it’s worth it.

Tuned into this randomly. All I could think of when watching it was "when had Mark joined the police force??"

Didn't much like it, found it too gloomy, I didn't find 1hr of someone looking perpetually anxious at all amusing.

Victoria Coren Mitchell writes on this in the Telegraph today, or about herself, or about her husband. Extract:

Thanks for this aspieandy. It's very insightful. One of my adult sons precisely fits this description (PhD in a maths type subject, travels the country/ world playing board games alongside a tribe of similar people - who I'm thrilled he found.) But I still didn't like episode one of this programme and haven't returned to it. I can't quite put my finger on why.

I'm very pleased for you and your son. Of course - and unlike your son - John Taylor/Ludwig hasn't found his tribe (even though his brother has, as well as a family of his own), and that's likely the central theme for some on the spectrum watching this; why do some turn inwards and others manage to avoid that.
For an answer, I suspect the show is smart to look at childhood truama and perhaps sibling hierarchy.
It isn't always a comfortable watch though I remain hopeful of a happy ending

.
The Belgian series Professor T managed to cover a similar theme very well. It benefited from having a wonderful soundtrack (I haven't checked recently but there was a lovely Spotify playlist of the music used). I know that there was a UK remake but I haven't seen that.

That remake is bizarre. Partly shot on the original sets/locations, it pretends to be relocated to Cambridge.
We watch most Detective shows in this house but we gave up on that one

I've actually quite enjoyed Professor T and I'm looking forward to the new series, which I think will be coming out in 2025. I do agree that Ludwig seems to have pretty similar premise, but is maybe a bit more on the comedic side.

Not a fan a "Peep show", and to be fair, that's really all I've seen David do, and "Would I lie to you". Boyfriend suggested to give "Ludwig" a watch, and I do love a good detective series, the synopsis seemed interesting.
Upon watching the first episode, it gave me quite a few "Monk" vibes, and I absolutely love Mr Monk! We thought "Ludwig" was great and watched the entire series in 2 evenings. It's very rare after a first episode I -have- to watch the next one, and I had that with "Ludwig". Curious to see when a series 2 will come out!
