You can tell autumn's here as Bake Off has started. Some interesting and quirky characters this time and the gays are heavily represented. There are at least 3. I have seen comments that it's not diverse enough this year. Not sure where those comments are coming from as its a very diverse mix. Some people are never happy! They were all complaining about how cold it was in the tent, just proves what a c**p summer we had.

Some only look at skin colour when considering how diverse a group of people are.
That is a very narrow interpretation and rarely helpful.
The first episode was a mixed bag.
2 hours was too short for a decorated loaf cake. 30 extra minutes would have been fairer
As someone who hates almonds, the idea of being forced to eat battenberg cake fills me with dread.
The showstoppers were of a higher standard than recent years.
But can they please dump Noel? Alison is good enough to host it on her own.

I'm the complete opposite on two of your comments.
I love battenburg and could happily have eaten every single one.
Alison Hammond is one of the most annoying and over exposed people on TV.
But agree about the illusion cakes, there were some great bakes there.

I’ve never liked the stupid sketches but that Barbie one nearly made me turn it off and delete it. Awful. I don’t like fast forwarding through things, but think I’ll have to start.
It amazes me that someone could watch that episode and then say it’s not a diverse group of people.
I really wish they’d sack the tent off and film it in a studio. It just causes unnecessary problems every single year, but that’s probably why they won’t, to create drama.
That duck illusion cake looked incredible.

The Australian and NZ versions both film in a shed. Not quite so cutesy. But it retains the rural feel quite well as well as being a better environment

I'm going to be hated for this ... As much as I love a good accent, I can't stand to listen to Allison So I didn't watch it last year, and wasn't going to this year either, but then my colleague told me about the technical being different, so I had to watch it. I quite enjoyed that part being different for a change. Not sure if I'd watch the rest of it though. I'm eagerly waiting for the Juniors to come back next year, I do love Harry with all the kids (and Paul doing the judging with them, haha)

Whilst I agree that Ms Hammond is over exposed and on our screens a lot. This is the one show where she fits for me.
Natural, warm, enthusiastic and supportive.
Fielding adds nothing for me.
And don't get me started on Harry Hill. What a waste of medical training.

I honestly wouldn't know if she is "over exposed and on our screens a lot" as we don't watch/have (live) TV. So I don't even know what she's done besides Bake Off. (she's been at my place of work 2 years ago, but on a day I don't work, and to this day I still don't really know why, lol).
So yeah, her accent just rubs me the wrong way I guess and I find it hard to listen to :/

The health of the contestants this year is a bit of a worry.
1 withdrawal due to ill health 1 fainting/collapsing during filming
Hopefully not a trend

This thread is starting to read like a list of peoples likes & dislikes rather than a discussion of the programme. Can we just have a thread for peoples general grumbles, dissatisfactions & grudges to let off steam and keep specifics for specifics?

Was it a withdrawal due to ill health or the contestant realising that he was a bit s**t and an easy way out? I'm also fascinated by the Dutch Baker and his amazing accent. He has about 5 different dialects in every sentence. Did those chocolate mint cream biscuits used to be called Viscount?
