Thought it might be fun to start a rumour/insider info thread for the upcoming year. Speculation, gossip, actual info all welcome. I'll share a bit of what I've heard through the grapevine (all of this is just stuff I've heard, not fact, and nothing confirmed yet)
West End to Broadway moves
- Mincemeat rumoured to have had a deal locked but one or more producers got cold feet at the last minute. This is why the cast change was so sloppy. Scrambling still.
- Stranger Things rumoured will be bringing a good portion of their leads over to Broadway (love that Netflix money), they're trying to make Louis McCartney a star.
- Producers still seem keen about Next to Normal move with at least some of the cast despite low sales right now. Will be marketed completely differently. Also heard a theatre is already locked for it.
Broadway to West End moves
- Two biggest names I've heard thrown around for a transfer are Stereophonic and Outsiders. Outsiders doesn't have the same name recognition in London but it does serve the Newsies fanbase of 'hot guys dancing'
- Sweeney Todd was a maybe for a while but it's gone quiet. Think they wanted Drury Lane. Prob not happening.
New shows
- GRR Martin still hoping for a 2025 opening for The Iron Throne, a Game of Thrones prequel play
- Hunger Games on stage moving along

‘The Outsiders’ was a pre-GCSE text at school when I was growing up so there’s certainly some name recognition plus the pre-Brat Pack movie from the same era has a certain demographic attached. Add in ‘hot guys dancing’ and I’m sure it would only gain in appeal. The alleged slightly icky behaviour of its cast doesn’t seem to be harming its success on Broadway, so yes, I think this is a shoe-in for the W/E.
‘Stereophonic’ has Sonia Friedman producing doesn’t it? I’m sure a deal is cut and dried there too.

Stereophonic's the one probably to come first; it's been basically confirmed at this point with all the interviews, and I caught a rumour that a theatre has already been decided at least a month ago after the Tonys...
I think Outsiders will go on it's National Tour before it comes to London, as seems to be the case with a few shows right now?

If Stereophonic does transfer, how many people will walk out when they realise it isn't a jukebox musical about a band from Cwmaman?

Mr B said in another thread that they totally jumped the gun on London plans, so when it's coming is variable.
Seems like the general theatre availability situation has stunted a lot of transfers. Next year is looking more likely for many shows.

Producers still seem keen about Next to Normal move with at least some of the cast despite low sales right now. Will be marketed completely differently. Thank goodness for that. The psychedelic poster artwork and 'I Miss the Mountains' t-shirt were... interesting choices. Not sure if anyone working on the marketing or merch had actually seen the show.

I believe it was confirmed they just passed the marketing off to someone who had not seen the show / was not dedicated to marketing that show. I think it might have just been a Donmar person rather than hiring an agency? I forget the details. The current state of sales is entirely the fault of producers choosing not to market it though because the actual show is incredible.

This is why the cast change was so sloppy Yes they've had Broadway issues and yes cast change was an utter mess behind the scenes, but I don't believe the two were related

Loved it in NY As above, also this show started off Broadway, any show that comes from off Broadway are cheap produce, so wouldn't be expensive to put on.

Well Jamie Lloyd will have the biggest advance booking on his hands. Bill and Ted or Keanu and Alex if you prefer in Waiting for Godot on Broadway next year.

Next year is looking more likely for many shows. I thought I read that Cameron Mackintosh wanted to bring this open, albeit the box office died very quickly afterwards. So as a guess I would say this will come over once the US tour is done, to utilise their set/

It was announced in mid-May that Dorian Gray is going to transfer to Broadway in 2025. Still no news on dates or which theatre it would be at, but the director said in an interview in July that plans are still afoot to transfer it.

In early to mid 2025, there's going to be a theatre related European Citizen's Initiative starting. (I can say this because I am in the early stages of drafting it) citizens-initiative.europa.eu/_en

Isn't there rumours of the Sondheim musical Here We Are coming to London/ the NT. If true I wonder if it will be part of Rufus Norris' final season or Indhu Rubasingham first season.

Any more news on Martin Guerre, or has that faded away again? I remember a rumour about it at the Old Vic..? If true, next year, maybe in Spring or Summer. But at the same time... really??

Rumour now circulating that CATS: The Jellicle Ball might hit London next spring and aim for Bway in 25-26 season. ALW loved the PAC production but allegedly doesn't want it competing against the SUNSET BLVD revival. National Theatre rumoured as potential house (I would imagine The Dorfman) if there is any truth to this.

There's a ton of shows that announced they were coming into the West End (eg Burlesque, Here You Come Again The Musical) and various rumours from here (POTUS) that there hasn't been an update on in a while
The Shining is still due into the Pinter, Finding Neverland is still due Summer 2025, Titanique seems to have gone all quiet again. I'm assuming when Bridge announce a season we'll have Magic in there.
There's over 40 rumoured shows (and more from this thread to add to the list) mentioned either on here or in the press over the past year... some things go really quiet really quick!

National Theatre rumoured as potential house (I would imagine The Dorfman) if there is any truth to this. The Dorfman is closed from the end of this year to "mid-2025," so either it'd be later, or it would be another house in the National (Lyttelton could be transformed as it was for The Effect), or a different house entirely. The Young Vic would be the absolute perfect place for it before a West End run, in the vein of Oklahoma.

Have now heard both Operation Mincemeat and Next to Normal being rumoured for the Booth, any weight to either of those? Also saw everyone's favourite shouty man on TikTok saying N2N was going to the Golden in January but I've taken that with several truckloads of salt.
Also curious if on the back of the survey OM put out there's been any rumblings about the cast for Broadway? I'm assuming they're still trying to bring the originals across? Would also love to know if they're trying to bring all of the 'Goodmans' across for N2N and not just Caissie Levy.
