We’ve been contacted by someone who is looking to hire performers for a small, new writing theatre project which is unpaid.
Please don’t ask me for more info, it’s “a small new writing fringe theatre project next year I shall require actor performers” l that’s all I know.
Do you think TheatreBoard should allow the casting call?
Especially interested in the opinions of performers, of course.

As long as the conditions are made absolutely clear (which it seems they are), I can't see any harm in allowing things like this

Maybe a section on the website dedicated to such posts. Allow one, more will come.

The thing is, there are so many sites, casting databases and social media outlets around already where things like this can be posted. If they start popping up here they could easily take over, if not kept in a separate forum. I'm not even sure you'd really catch the attention of that many performers looking for work on a forum like this. Sure, there may be some who read and post, but I doubt it's likely to be a go-to for them for job opportunities.

I don't agree with unpaid work, so I would say no.

No objections in principle but it could quickly grow and there is a risk of exploitation through lack of vetting.

Gut feeling is 'no'. There's a difference between 'unpaid because the whole cast and crew are doing it for the love of it' and 'unpaid because only those in charge will be making money', and it would just be too difficult to tell one type from the other when someone submits a listing.

Maybe on the notice board only, with it clearly marked out what it is and expectations.

Thanks for your responses everyone. Majority seems to be not in favour, or have reservations so I’ve declined the request.
