So I've decided to final get my ass to Broadway and see some shows, so I've booked a week in New York from 1st July, with the one rule the show can't be running in the West End and I can't have seen it live before.
So...
Monday - Water for Elephants Tuesday - Little Shop of Horrors Wednesday - Merry We Roll Along and The Wiz Thursday - Suffs (Cancelled, no other shows running that day) Friday - The Outsiders and The Great Gatsby Saturday - Chicago and The Notebook.
Now the advice I need is that my flight back to the UK on Sunday has been pushed from 1pm to 7:30pm, so I find myself with a ponder, do I fit in an extra show or save a museum for the final day?
It does mean breaking the rule as those shows I've not seen start at 3pm, while a few that I've not seen and are running in London start 1pm, so basically Lion King or MJ. I recon I've got a good chance at those and making it to JFK by 5pm. Anything starting at 2pm I'm guessing is possible but would leave me getting to JFK just before 6pm, not worth that last minute stress. I'm doing this with a backpack, so don't have to worry about checking in bags.
Oh and since I'm asking, with nothing running July 4th, any good comedy club recommendations? I find Fireworks a bit boring.
Cheers.

My daughter is currently in New York for a work/holiday trip. If you do suddenly find yourself with a cancellation she would certainly recommend Illinoise which won the Tony for best choreography. Obviously it helps if you're a fan of Sufjan Stevens.
I think her favourite museum trip on her last visit was the Cloisters (the outpost of the Met) while this time round she seems very taken with the huge diorama of the city of New York which features in the film Wonderstruck and is housed at the Queens Museum in Flushing Meadows.
I'm sure there will be a more expert opinion along shortly.

Would recommend Illinoise as well if you can fit in it! See they don’t have a Sunday show which is a shame as that’s a good 90 minute one. Wasn’t familiar with the album but still really enjoyed!
LSOH is also quite short (around 2h including interval and starts at 2pm) so would say should be doable for a pre-airport show if you have the option to swap it to Sunday and free up the Tuesday slot!
Also didn’t realise shows cancelled performances on July 4th though makes sense I guess 😅

If you haven’t considered it, I’d look at Stereophonic. It is a play, but with a fully sung score!

If they've cancelled your original flight, you have good grounds to ask to be moved to another flight of your choice that day. So, you could move to a 10pm flight and easily catch a matinee.
All this assumes you're with an airline with multiple flights per day, like BA.
If not, hopefully you're with a UK/EU airline and they notified you late, as you might well be entitled to UK 261 compensation. You'll have to claim for this and the airlines usually forget to remind you.
Otherwise, you have some very good show recommendations here already.

Well my orginal flight back was for 10am Sunday, I remember booking at the time and the return after that to Heathrow was 7:30. It just means instead of a sleeper train/coach home, I've booked a normal train for Monday morning. So I'm not totally put out, just have some extra hours to kill.

It varies from theatre to theatre but it's usually quite cold in there from my experience.

I accidentally booked my ‘Tommy’ tickets for the wrong date on Todaytix and they just got them moved to another date for me. They were clear that it was up to the theatre, but as there was plenty of availability it wasn’t a problem. Give ‘em a try.

You are probably already aware, but just in case: next weekend is a holiday weekend in the United States so traffic to and from the airport on Sunday will be heavier than usual so allow yourself a little bit of extra time especially if you're going to JFK. Illinoise is fantastic but as others have mentioned, they do not have Sunday performances, which is a shame.
