The problem is, you can't make a rule around "don't be annoying". Apart from the fact that most of us would be in breach of it at some time or another (especially me!) it's fair to say that what one person finds annoying is the epitome of charm to someone else. You can be assured that we're not just sitting around twiddling our thumbs round the back. When things go wrong they get discussed and actions agreed which will include talking to the individuals involved . Every member's report and moderation decision is reviewed by several of the admin team, there is very little if anything at all that happens independently, without getting other admins input. I would say that considering the amount of activity we have on this forum, it's rate of growth and the fact that signing up is so easy the amount of conflict is really very small, and thank you to those people who have recognised and commented on that above. Yes there have been a couple of troublesome threads and we have our share of "personalities". But for every critic of those individuals there is usually a supporter sticking up for them. So how do you moderate that? The advice above about ignoring people we don't agree with, or resisting the temptation to respond if it's only to be snarky is the best approach. And from the other perspective we should think about whether our posts are actually adding something to the discussion. If not, think twice before hitting that reply button. After all, we might not all be grown ups, but we can at least act like we are, right? I hope the people who are thinking about taking a break will come back revived, and ready to join in the chat again very soon. Oops. That's my foray into the TheatreBoard world terminated right there.

I'd also like to add that is the NICEST forum I've had the fortune of being a part of. I was locked out of the "old forum" as i didn't register before it was locked, so I spent some time on the BWW forum, and let me tell you, while I don't agree with Patti Murin on most things- she was right about it being a nasty place.
This forum is informative, easy to use and I've really never seen actual nastiness. Some snark- sure, some topics drifting- yeah. But compared to the rest of the internet- it's suprisingly calm here.

I think Ryan’s concerns would be as to whether his posts could be seen to add "something" to the discussions .... Ryan's recent posts on various threads have suggestions as to –
1 – His chafing underwear 2 – The strapping on of a codpiece 3 – Killian Donnelly in a boudoir 4 – Smuggling termites into The Globe 5 – The view of Killian Donnelly in his pants from front row
I would suggest, fellow forumners, the above is the stuff that makes a great forum. This is the stuff that the internet was made for. The image of Ryan in chafing codpiece full of termites whilst leering at Killian Donnelly. While kicking his leg in the air and wearing what we hope to be fake fur.

I created the "Unpopular Opinions" thread and am constantly impressed that people do not descend into hysterical fits against each other for their blasphemies- we have really tolerated the unpopular beliefs brilliantly and I hope it has avoided too much squabbling in other threads. I can't imagine any other board being as disciplined.
I'm with Steve on the age conflict phenomenon, (and I may be guilty of some impatience). Other boards have many more threads and sometimes that helps- the young fangirls can discuss Wicked swings to their hearts' content there- whilst the old codgers like me chat about lost theatres and recordings of Follies elsewhere. No, bad example- the multiplicity of threads mean that some can discuss ticket availability for a show, whilst others analyse the set design or merchandise of replacement casts of said show, away from each other.
Maybe our community is rather small, so we can't easily ignore one another (unless we take what for me seems a fairly extreme measure by actually "ignoring" them)?

Now that we're an open forum again we're going to attract more posters who were not familiar with WOS and are not familiar with established personalities/forum etiquette.
My experience is that newcomers to an established forum can be a bit overeager, at first, and take a while to settle in. So perhaps we can try to cut newbies a little slack?

My experience is that newcomers to an established forum can be a bit overeager, at first, and take a while to settle in. So perhaps we can try to cut newbies a little slack? I'm with Kathryn on this one. Yes, some of us have been going to theatre and chatting about it on the internet since the dawn of time, but not everyone has been seeing theatre that long or posting on forums like this for as long as us (remember when forums and Livejournal were all we had? glorious days, yet also dark dark days, anyway I digress) I know I was probably an annoying as all hell when I first started posting about theatre. Hell I can be annoying now. We all can. But let's be paitent with newcomers, and either politely steer them or play nice and ignore them. I personally think on the whole we're doing really well here, and that the Mods are doing an excellent job of managing things without being heavy handed. Meanwhile here's some cats: Or if anyone actually prefers some CATS:

Pet videos are likely the reasons why The Secret Life of Pets did so well at the box office...

The Funny Girl thread springs to mind but perhaps there are others I'm not aware of. I agree that the tone has changed on here, and I find that some posters are becoming increasingly irritating in either their manner and tone of posting or the extent of it, depends on the situation. But I do think I feel less inclined to read or post these days, which is a shame. Nothing against the mods though, I think this has been the best of all the forums I've ever posted on in terms of the mods striking the balance right. Reread the last ten pages of Funny Girl. Seemed pretty tame to me and, well... quite funny.
Did I not go back far enough?

I think that probably is the best way to read it, Theglenbucklaird, (I usually wait until there are a few pages before risking a gander.) I think it gets irritating if people are looking at it particularly for news and then the same roundabout conversations keep occurring, but I agree it's pretty tame. That's partly due to the sterling work of the mods who keep stepping in and setting the dial back to 'O.' In between all that there are some really interesting postings about the actual production.

I don't mind a bit of banter, but what's stopping me visiting as much as I used to are the pornographic pop-ups I sometimes see when accessing this board on my phone. Apparently a known issue with some Proboard ads and not much can be done about it. I can't risk this if I am on a work wi-fi connection.

You can, however, use the Tapatalk app on your phone to access the board. Just give it a try, it's available for both Android and iOS

As theatre lovers love a good old revival, whether it is Cats, Chicago or The Sound of Music
That's why I say revive the axed Bend It Like Bechham thread, I need a good laugh.

So how do you moderate that? Can I just quickly say, and apologise for not having got round to it before, a massive THANK YOU to all those involved in setting up this forum. I was on the previous one (but had no idea it had been locked and no one else could join!) and had a mild panic when it was announced it was closing. I get so much advice and information on here, as well as some genuine laughs from some of the comments, and would be lost without it. I couldn't believe how quickly you all managed to set up a new forum and had it all up and running before we were kicked off the other one, and appreciate all the time and hard work you still put in moderating everything. As you can see, I don't post that often; I don't have any inside gossip, try not to get involved in petty squabbles (I have enough of those to deal with in 'real life') and only really post if it's about a show I've seen or have a question on, so this forum would be pretty boring if we were all like me. But I check in every day, I don't want to miss any deals!

What I don't like is that some people constantly post the same thing over and over again - To the point where it actually makes me uncomfortable to read their posts and it disrupts the whole point of a thread I agree! Recently, there has been a stream of posts exactly like yours, all complaining that the same thing is being posted over and over again. Is there such need to keep repeating this same opinion?

I know this is tongue-in-cheek, but there's a grain of truth in it. Threads get derailed when people start arguing about each other instead of talking about the thread topic. If one particular poster is irritating you by being repetitive, put them on ignore. You'll soon see if something they said has sparked an interesting conversation and can always view individual posts.

I love cats. But not Cats. I don't love cats; which is arguable ironic as the word 'cat' forms part of my surname. I'm a dog lover. I like the musical though.
