Even without this scandal, it was due for a serious shake up - feeling dated and repetitive. Being forced to find a change of direction might be the best thing to happen to Strictly in the long run Agree.

Whist I have no reason to question the legitimacy of the claims being made, what I do know it that it's free publicity for the upcoming series.
Good press or negative, everybody's talking about Strictly!

Never really bothered with Strictly but last week I went to see Anton and Giovanni: Together, as there was someone in the ensemble I wanted to see. Three performances at the same theatre, all of them sold out.
Whatever may have happened back stage, don’t think it’s having much of an impact on the popularity of the show.

I love Strictly, but I think they need to reassess what show it is.
Is it a mixed ability show, where you could have a west end star/dancer take part alongside an MP, or is it like it was 20 years ago, with everyone being awful until half way through?

Zoe Ball got 35 in the first week in series 3. Other than series 1 I don't think there's ever been a series where at least 1 or 2 contestants weren't good from the start.
I think the issue now is that they are less strict with the dance styles. The ballroom and Latin aspect has been lost a bit and now the dancing is a lot more generic so it feels that those with a dance background aren't really learning as much as they used to.

If what is alleged is true, and police questioning is required, the alleged perpetrator may have to be extradited from his native Italy.

When the show returns I wonder if Tess will address it (in any) way- even just briefly- or just gloss over it with a plastic smile, keeping her poker face?

And now one of the female pro-dancers is accused. There is no-way that the BBC cannot have been aware of this (if the accusations are true). I suspect they are now concerned because it has become news, rather than for the mis-treatment - which, lets face it, is not unusual in many settings, sadly.

It's funny, but as far as I'm aware, none of the winning celebrities have complained ....

This is getting out of hand now
Injuries happen. That is part of physical activity like dancing.
Greg Rutherford did serious damage to himself recently on Dancing on Ice but he isn't trying to complain about it.

It's kind of running out of steam, the tabloids are dragging out stories from 10-15 years ago.

I just saw Amanda Abbington's interview on Channel 4 on Twitter (X) this morning.
Sounds like she's had a horrible experience during her time on the show and after.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, I hope that she is receiving the support- emotionally and mentally- she needs.

In other news, perhaps intended as a diversion, Nick Knowles and Paul Merson are rumoured to be taking part this year.

Rather undermines the credibility of that leak ... As happens almost every year there are numerous leaks and rarely have they been completely accurate. Just serves to build up curiosity in the new series.

Sometimes, of course, people do Strictly for sentimental reasons rather than to boost an already successful career. Their kids want to see them do it or an elderly grandparent does. I can see a scenario whereby Hannah Waddingham would want to do it for her mum (a former English National Opera singer) and her daughter.
