Saw the final performance of this at TOP Studio tonight, after seeing a work in progress at the Turbine a few months back.
It’s great! JLG is super talented, and can’t wait to see the future of the show. Gorgeous combination of comedy and heart wrenching emotion.
Rebecca Lock and Jess Douglas-Welch are standouts too.

Was literally shot to open a post on this. Saw it this afternoon-absolutely incredible! Always been a massive Jordan fan and to think he wrote this and just performed brilliantly. Hope this has a future life-it certainly deserves one!

I was there this afternoon too. Gorgeous vocals from all. I'd love to see a full production of this (definitely with Becky Lock as Mary Critchard, she was wonderful, as always)

I went this afternoon too. I thought that the mum/daughter combo stole the show. Some very catchy songs and I enjoyed it a lot.

I saw this last night too.
I am truly overwhelmed. Absolutely loved it and feel like i was one of the lucky ones to see this at the start of its life.
Its so simple and just beautiful. Kind of Folky, which i love.
And what a cast!!! Rebecca Lock is superb! Funny, heartbreaking and everything in between and the actress who played her daughter was wonderful as well. Jordan Luke Gage is a genius! Not only a top performer but now a writer of Musicals. And smashes it out the park.
I hope this gets the life it deserves.
A beautiful night of Theatre.

I thought the the second act songs were especially powerful. It was the dialogue writing that impressed even more - it had a such a natural and real flow to it. Jordan Luke Gage shows such talent in all areas, Book, Music, Lyrics, Performance - quite a feat. The cast were great.
In taking it forward I hope it's changed to a fictionalised version of one of these terrible unjust events, or made accurate to the two specific men. There's power in knowing it's based on a real story, but the real men were actually over 30 years apart in age, and it wasn't a botch up of their letter writing that sunk them; their sexual encounter was in a room in a pub not on the waterfront. Richard was a publican in Bristol himself, not going away to sea. Artistic licence makes stories, but given the men's incredible bravery in standing up for their truth back then it feels uncomfortable to not give them their truth now. A lot of the audience (including, many gay audience members) may find the age gap less attractive to watch and the circumstance of the sexual relations more awkward - good, be challenging. Or change the names and draw from a number of cases which is how it feels anyway. It is factual that the two men kissed each other's hands at the gallows, just as depicted in the performance - extraordinary and moving.
