Let me ask a question? If Hercules falls through (regardless of the reasons) and Disney Theatricals has the Theatre Royal Drury Lane booked, do they have another show that could go in?
I can't believe that Disney would put all their 'eggs in the one basket' without having something else in the pipeline, or in pre-production.

I can imagine this having a virtually identical path as Hunchback (as the films have similar cult following, in terms of Disney, at least) - I imagine Disney will fund a Studio Cast Recording in the near future and then it'll pop up for licensing (and be MASSIVELY popular with groups)

There would be a stop clause to allow LW Theatres to find another tenant. They've got plenty of time.

I can't believe that Disney would put all their 'eggs in the one basket' without having something else in the pipeline, or in pre-production. I would still advocate for "Aida", ideally the original version and not the mangled new version that played in the Netherlands. It's a somewhat familiar IP and the names Elton John and Tim Rice would put some bums on seats alone, plus it offers three really great roles for powerhouse performers who'd bring their own fans along. Cast Jordan Luke Gage as Radames and get him to take his shirt off and tickets would sell themselves.

There was a rumour of a season of plays at Drury Lane that Jamie Lloyd will be directing. I wonder if that might be true but it's happening later rather than this year.

At least now we've got another few months or so of endless speculation in circles about what show can possibly sell the barn that is TRDL. Hurray!! Hurrah! See you all in the What's Next For... Theatre thread I do agree with anthony40 in that I think it's crazy they'd put all their eggs in the one basket. I mean, the implications of Frozen closing to stage Hercules and now that's fallen through... that's got to be embarrassing! ALW keeps saying he wants to stage plays there so maybe the JL rumour has some weight, but who knows.

ALW wanting to do Shakespeare at Drury Lane is down to when he was a child, he saw John Gielgud in The Tempest at Drury Lane and Gielgud on the last night broke the staff and declared the theatre would never have Shakespeare again. The paintings of various Shakespeare productions in Drury Lane is his way of proving Gielgud and a season of plays would be the icing on the cake.

Similarly, we had no idea about the show and took a gamble on Tim Rice & Elton John- it was bloody brilliant!

Isn't it way too big for plays? Can't think of many plays that would translate to back of Balcony. (Although I appreciate since the redevelopment they can allegedly stage things in the round; when you're in there it's hard to imagine how).
Bring back Miss Saigon and be done with it I say!
(Seriously though they need a big show to fill that place. Otherwise it's gonna be pop concerts and one nighters like the Palladium).

If the Prince Edward can have a play like Dear England then Drury Lane shouldn't be an issue. The stage itself can be extended into the auditorium IIRC, it's been designed to be flexible.

What about... Hercules... in concert!!?
What a money printer. Immaculate sound and lighting cues. Large, expansive set. Everything a concert is on the West End!!!

One of my favourite ‘listens’, and I’ve pretty much put the show on in my head already.

If they were in contract negotiations it wasn’t “on”. They were just talking about it. I think I speak for all of us when I say that if contract negotiations have started, us gossip hounds NEED to know about it, even if they fall apart a few days later. So, thankyou mrbarnaby. A very hard agree with this! Plus, MrB is very rarely wrong! Sad this isn’t happening now, but intrigued by what could fill Drury Lane!

Let's just put Lord of the Rings, Martin Guerre or Just For One Day into Drury Lane and have done with all this nonsense. Or perhaps put all three in rep with a giant three-way revolve.

Surely it's time to revive Dreamboats and Petticoats... Perfect use of the space

JFOD would need to market quite well to fill Drury Lane. Like, they have the material to market it on nostalgia, and can do it successfully, but it would be an uphill climb to fill it; unless they pull a frozen and close a level? Just my two pennies

All at the same time, all revolving. And it's the original Lord of the Rings and Martin Guerre. And Jamie Lloyd is also running about with a handheld backstage knocking objects and picture frames off the walls with a cricket bat, all projected to a large screen at the front of the stage.
Or, we do that Sunset Boulevard vs SUNSET BLVD. idea. Like Sarah Brightman and Nicole Scherzinger having a big catfight on stage.
I'd be there every evening and matinee. That'd sell out TRDL.

It’s happening. Announcement imminent That sounds like it was all signed, sealed and delivered, not still negotiating contracts. To go from announcement imminet to then realising the show isn't selling well and it's not good enough to bring to London? Weird.
