Someone in Hamburg made a group booking for ten pensioners for a matinee. A red telephone on a desk in the ALW offices rang and when answered a disembodied voice just said “it’s on again” and put the receiver down. Did they say it in an elated or an exasperated tone? Excited, yet at the same time nervous.

I’m already letting my mind spin trying to think of who they could cast as the leads and Muses - I’m excited for this one!

Does this mean more precocious little gits with popcorn, slushies and inflammable costumes high on the wonders of "Sugar Sin" invading this beautiful theatre once again?

Michael Elcock would be brilliant as Hercules, one of the redeeming factors of Hex at the National a few years ago...

Disney fans, people who grew up in the 90s and loved the film, families with boys who have less interest in Princess shows. Bit odd to say you grew up with Frozen and then dismiss Hercules, despite there being generations who grew up with that too. In Hercules case I'd actually say the opposite has happened, it's only gotten more popular over the years. When it was first released it was overshadowed by the giants of the renaissance era, but thanks to home video/dvd/disney channel etc it has grown more popular over time. Mulan is another one too. I doubt it will be as big as frozen, but I think it could do a healthy year or so in Drury Lane then maybe tour or transfer to the states. Plus if they get on and make the live action that's in development that will bring renewed interest in it.

Got the email and just went “OOF!” This and “Devil Wears Prada” are two of the worst and ugliest things I’ve ever seen on stage and they’re both getting moved to WE. Let’s pray this one gets a total reworking as well, like “Prada” (hopefully) is. I have heard of a few people who really didn't enjoy this - what are the problems?

Bit odd to say you grew up with Frozen and then dismiss Hercules, despite there being generations who grew up with that too. i was responding to someone talking about how young the audience was going to be, why would i discuss a generation older than me? despite there being generations who grew up with that too sure, my point being that, i suppose, they have to target this towards those generations. in my mind, the disney shows (especially to a theatre like the TRDL) need young people/families to come... maybe i'm wrong/skewed by only ever really knowing lion kind and frozen. Plus if they get on and make the live action that's in development that will bring renewed interest in it. ah now THAT makes more sense to me, i didn't know that that was a thing. idk, maybe i'm way off here, and i was definitely not trying to say that there wasn't a target audience (i was just trying to ask where we think they hope to market at. perhaps not in a particuarly clear way - my bad)

I guess the target audience would be largely millennials seeing it or bringing their own kids. It has a fan following, but nothing like the popularity of Frozen.
It's an odd choice for a theatre this size, but saying that, I'd very much like to see it!

It is weird to think that Aladdin wasn't that well received here and now they're bringing a similar production back. Makes you wonder what they're expecting this time around. Well it did run for nearly 3 years and is now on a lengthy tour. So somebody must have bought tickets. Better than a good chunk of west end shows these days.

Summer 2025... won't there be a massive gap between the Christmas show and this?? What?? Someone get mrbarnaby on the phone! Haha! It’s off… it’s on…. It’s off…. It’s on! Can we start the Bradley Jaden as Hercules petition now?

The strange lack of official Disney press material around this pretty major announcement suggests to me this is all very fluid and evolving and seems really lastminute.com; I totally believe in what mrbarnaby said about it being shaky and being on and off again... seems like a risk they were back and forth on taking..!

Can we start the Bradley Jaden as Hercules petition now? He's been played by a black actor in every production before this, so i don't see that changing. I see there will be a brand new book from Kwame Kwei-Armah. Was he on the project from the start? he's known for writing peices from a black perspective and I wnder how that's worked previously. What are the perceived problems with the show in it's current form?

I need to know every single detail about the BTS drama that led to this being on, cancelled, then back on again.
