There have been four shows, that I've really enjoyed so far in 2024: A Mirror (Trafalgar Studios), Faith Healer (Hammersmith Lyric), 12 Angry Men (Richmond Theatre) and Storming (Playground Theatre). But I think my favourite in terms of sheer originality, writing and entertainment is A Mirror.
I thought this was really clever and loved all the plays within the play. And I never imagined that a satire like this would be so funny too. I would be very happy to go and see this again, because there is just so much to take in.

I've only seen 2 musicals this year, the rest have been concert versions of musicals.
Best musical so far is Two Strangers and best concert Side Show.

The Donmar Macbeth, although the Orange Tree Uncle Vanya is a close second.

I have no idea, it's been epic so far. Shortlist:
Ulster American - David Ireland's new work at the Hamersmith rip-you-off
Infinite Life - Annie Baker's intriging exploration of life, death and body weight
Giselle (Speaking's version) - ENBs proud magnificence
Macbeth - kilted Tennant taking chances, which mostly paid off
The Picture of Dorian Gray - Aussie import: smart, stylish and unappealingly priced
The Homecoming - relieved for a solid reading of Pinter, presented well enough
The Magic Flute - totally glorious Access performance of a new ENO production
Manon - ROH: included mostly for Fumi and Vadim
Till the Stars Come Down - probably doesn't quite make it, but very close
Has to be The Magic Flute, just one of those perfect, chaotic, magical occasions.

Makes me think I am missing out, I go to the theatre a lot, and I haven't seen any of these!

Loved A Mirror, felt TMAC was better in 2nd half but not a huge fan, and disappointed by Uncle Vanya although did think Andrew Richardson was excellent. Haven't seen 1979. |

A Midsummer Night's Dream at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre.
We were in seats which meant we couldn't see a lot of the overall special effects and full staging, but the acting completely drew us in.
Sunday Night at the Palladium with Bill Kenwright was a very special night.
Blood Brothers will always be in my list - but that is just for very personal reasons now.

Edward Scissorhands and the RSC's A Midsummer Night's Dream
(but the only other shows I've seen so far this year are The Merchant of Venice 1936 at the RSC and Jack and the Beanstalk at the Birmingham Hippodrome which were both also great)

Midsummer Night's Dream at the RSC (tops the list for me so far this year), Oliver at the Leeds Playhouse, and Till the Stars Come Down at the Dorfman as the best of the "family" drama type shows that have been doing the rounds. With honourable mention for the perennial that is Xmas Carol at the Old Vic (which I always seem to end up seeing in January!) Quite a few turkeys as well unfortunately.
