Saw this again tonight and loved it again. The singing by all of the leads is absolutely fantastic. the lighting design really struck me too. In Heavan Can Wait it's absolutely beautiful. I'm a sucker for a bit of lighting. I agree, loved it more the second time. gutted that i cant make a third  . The lighting design is stunning, especially as you say in Heaven can wait, made me cry lol. |

I do wonder how this will go down in London, I hope the press don't kill it. I bet it's fabulous on that huge stage at the Coliseum. It's a fabulous night out and it deserves to do well. @parsley will HATE it!  |

It definitely needs seeing again. Such a spectacle and such fabulous voices. I look forward to it but hope act two has shrunk by a couple of sh*t ones.

Critics will rip it to shreds, but it isn't a critic's show and I'm sure they know that.
It's only doing a limited run at the Coliseum and from a quick glance at the ENO website, it seems to be selling well. It's already booked into a longer engagement in Toronto and I'm sure other North American cities will follow or maybe if it goes down well in London it will come back?

I saw this on Saturday night and LOVED it. We had Ben Purkiss as Strat and Olly Dobson as Jagwire, both of whom were great (and now I have an excuse to go back when it's in London to see Andrew Polec after all the raves). I can only echo what others on here have said: staging WOW, Danielle Steers WOW, basically everyone else WOW.
From the song list posted earlier in the thread, Good Girls Go to Heaven and Making Love Out of Nothing At All have been cut. The others are all there in full (or mostly, at least more than just a verse and a chorus). They must have lost a bit from the dialogue scenes since they started though, we were out by 10:15, including the curtain call where basically everyone (around where I was sitting in the front circle at least) jumped to their feet as soon as the ensemble appeared.

Can't believe it. The stalls are only half sold on Friday night and not a discount in sight. Not even the standard ATG card offers. It's also more expensive from Thursday onwards than earlier in the week with preemies at £72.50
Why would they rather have all those empty seats than filling the theatre and sending it off to London with a bang?
Unfathomable.

I was keeping an eye on this last weekend thinking surely they would at least reduce the premium ticket prices to the standard top price on the day, given how many empty seats there were (with the gallery closed then too) but it remained at £72.50. I would have liked to have seen it a second time but not at those prices or paying £62.50 a ticket for the back of the circle or a restricted view. Seems to be selling well in London though.

I saw the show in Manchester tonight. This show already has fans of the original `Bat Out Of Hell` album that the show is based on. So am expected a backlash from Meatloaf fans of anything I write.
The musical is based on the Meatloaf album Bat Out Of Hell made in 1976. With several other songs written by Jim Steinman over the years. It is a rock musical similar in format to We Will Rock You.
There was a queue outside the theatre (a photo of which was put on twitter). The queue was because there were only two people checking the bags of everyone entering. Not because the theatre was full.
The set is great and changes using lighting. They spent lots on the set and then leave a used mattress at the front of the stage. Not sure why that was.
Best parts: I love the Ensemble. Many talented young performers/dancers. When they were all together dancing/singing on stage were the best parts of the show for me. I love, love Andrew Polec, and I am a straight bloke. They sang around four great songs together that were brilliant.
The story has two strands. One revolves around the lead teenage male character Strat fancying, and wanting to date, the lead female character Raven. The other revolves around Ravens wealthy parents who are getting old and really do not like getting old. (In one scene, the middle-aged couple also go dogging. Really, this groundbreaking show is the first ever to feature a dogging scene). That is the basis of the plot which developed from there. But I still do not know what it was all about ! I have no interest in watching a middle-aged couple get intimate. Or the angst of a wealthy couple arguing in their luxury home about getting old, and complaining about teenagers. I also do not remember a show were the leads turn their backs on the audience so often.
However, I really smiled at `Dead Ringer For Love` when all the dancers were on stage together, and the other hit record set pieces, such as `You Took The Words Right Out Of My Mouth. It may be worth going just to see the young star Andrew Polec.
The show got big cheers and standing ovation at the end, from people around me, and seems to have many fans.

I thought it was a flashback to their first date at a drive in movie and a comment about how young lust turned into a loveless marriage. "I remember every little thing as of it happened only yesterday..." etc etc. I think I prefer the dogging reading though. Doesn't sound like they've made the big plot changes they needed to when I saw it a few months ago which is a missed opportunity |

It may be possible that I ended up back in Manchester yesterday (in the second row) to see this again. It may also be possible that I have booked one of the cheap balcony seats for the first night in London (which will leave me running on less than 5 hours sleep for work the next day). Oops!
Worth noting for anyone who's considering booking for London - front stalls on the house right side may well end up with a rather large prop partly blocking the view for the last 15 minutes of the first act. I didn't realise how much it stuck up from the circle last week. Lots of people around me were muttering about it yesterday. It wasn't a full obstruction (at least from my seat), it just meant that I couldn't see the characters when they were lying/sitting on the bed, but could when they stood up.

Does anyone know if they're doing anything to this between venues? I'd have thought that the bulk of the time is to shift the mahoosive set, but wonder if they are going to work on the book and tighten it further? I can't wait to see it in The Coliseum.

I know there are plans to work on the staging and put back in some things they couldn't make work in Manchester. No idea if they're working on the book but given the chances that happened over the Manchester run it wouldn't surprise me. I'm there for the first preview so I'll make sure to report back here.
