Bat Out Of Hell The Musical - MCR/Dominion/Tour/Peacock/Tour

Hmmmm, I'd be VERY surprised if NYC goes ahead now as it was just a date on the tour, same producers etc. 

Plus for whatever reason, the producers have never been confident about Broadway, hence launching in UK first, then Canada, then planning a tour in US instead then going for a limited time at a non Broadway theatre. 

I find it odd as Bat is a million times better than half the rubbish that plays Broadway; but there we are!

And surely Steinman (mainly known via Meatloaf) is massive in the USA. Very odd it's not sold well. 

I say get that UK tour to the big 6 venues up and running.

And in the meantime I can hear Oberhausen calling me.....

Agree, was pretty much sold out in Manchester (other than the extension, but that was announced at the 11th hour....)

Sharon dedicated her award to the US tour cast, which I thought was lovely.

I suspect it may be a Dreamgirls situation though. Dreamgirls tour doesn't actually begin until August/September 2020, but their press release made out like the tour was happening the next day. 😂

Things are definitely strange over here in the US.

So, the NY City Center dates for Summer 2019 are apparently still on - with the website saying Summer 2019.  And US tour "launching 2019".

Of course, I highly doubt any member of the now-canceled tour cast is going to sign on again.  Some may do so - but the trust element is long gone.
And then there's the cost for storage of the set for all of those months.
And which venues are going to be willing to book Bat Out Of Hell a second time - only to run the risk of getting a one or two week hole in their schedule to fill at the last second?

So, this appears to be going the way of Rebecca in the US.  And of course, the producer's prior cancellation - never to be rescheduled - JCSuperstar.  

I did a backstage tour this evening that was run by the stage manager (omg the rake of that stage is nuts, I've no clue how they walk on it let alone dance on it!), she said that they were hoping for a UK tour but 'it's just speculation'.

It was ‘Priceless Mastercard Experience’ they did for one evening – stalls ticket, 2 glasses of champagne (that I swapped for coke!!), a program and backstage tour for £65, pretty decent really. It should do, unless you're reapplying it night after night after night in which case your whites will eventually turn a fetching shade of pink that no further washing will remove.

Per female lead Emily Schultheis on the tour's Facebook and Instagram, in response to official announcements, it would have to be a new cast: "TO CLEAR UP ANY CONFUSION: “everyone involved” does not include the 50+ people who were shipped back to new york jobless and homeless with no warning. we have been fired and have had our contracts terminated. Just to clear up any confusing or misleading statements being made."

As for Steinman's fame in the U.S., guess again. As an American and a Steinman fan, I can only say I wish that were the case. In Europe, and possibly particularly in the UK, Meat Loaf and Jim Steinman's oeuvre is taken very seriously (I mean, sh*t, proof positive for me is that Tanz der Vampire is still getting produced long after the Broadway run killed its chances outside of continental Europe, although -- as another poster from this forum pointed out to me -- that may owe equally to Stage Entertainment being just awful at building a diversified portfolio of shows). Way more seriously than here, that is, where market research once indicated only 2% of the general public had any clue Jim was involved with the Bat Out of Hell albums (in general, a lot more people have heard his music, with or without Meat Loaf, than know he was involved with it), probably even less (outside of his fan circle) that the songs were originally intended for a musical, and where Meat and Jim's music is generally treated as the definition of a guilty pleasure.

I should add that it probably didn't help that a) for anybody who was savvy about the American theater scene, the team behind it didn't look good (you're only as good as your last credit, and DOTV and Spider-Man is no sterling pedigree), and b) it might have gummed up the works a bit to have The Bat Experience touring at the same time, booking either the same venues -- or venues of a similar size -- in nearly all of their dates (frankly, I'll be very surprised if they don't clear their schedules and claim the musical's abandoned slots). Given the choice between a tribute act endorsed by Meat Loaf, featuring Meat Loaf alumni, and packaging the songs pretty much the way people have always seen/heard them, and a musical that was equal parts dystopian futuristic Peter Pan, dubious political commentary, and not quite found its footing yet, the average schmo is gonna pick the tribute band, because an evening out is expensive and at least from a tribute band they know what to expect.
