...and to think that I didn’t like ‘Quit’ at first. It reminded me of the disorientating dream like wooziness I felt first time I saw it in Manchester. I’ve come to love it now though.
‘Who Needs The Young’ just doesn’t fit with the rest of the show however well it might be performed.

I also wasn't too fussed re Quit early on in Manc but it really grew on me during the Coliseum run. I think it was cut towards the end of this as they were toying with the changes for Canada.
Viserys - have you heard of any of the leads for Oberhausen? I know you're worried about the production values, but if Bat closes in the West End and doesn't tour the UK, I will probably check out the German version for my Bat fix. Oberhausen is near enough to Bochum to go on one of my Starlight trips :-)
Re London, rumours I believe are that it won't extend again. I REALLY hope this is wrong though.

I’ve come *very* late to the Bat party unfortunately, and would love it to do the whole year so I can see it a few more times in between. Any idea when we’ll know one way or the other? I’ve booked a ticket for the 5th January evening show just in case - looking at the seating plans it just doesn’t seem to be selling well enough which is such a shame. It’s such a feelgood show and I leave on a real high every singe time. |

Yea, as Michael says - the leads may be fantastic, but nothing in the world will make me go and see the show being sung in German. I've heard only ONE translated line so far and it was a mess already. Ironically I had said from the get-go that I was certain Strat would be either a Dutch or Swedish performer. I'm sure young Robin Reitsma will do a decent job, but what's the point in translating the show into German and then hire a foreign lead who can't even sing fluently in a foreign language? Granted, Dutch performers usually do better than anglophone speakers since the languages are fairly alike and they have no problems with the throaty "ch" sound, but even so... it's all just so silly. Let the boy sing in English, ffs. I rather fly eight hours across the Atlantic to see the US tour next spring than drive an hour to see it in Oberhausen. |

Yes, they did that with "We Will Rock You" - songs in English, dialogues in German and it worked pretty well and the show had a very successful run. I don't understand why they couldn't have done this here, too.
And yes, contrary to what Stage Entertainment believes (they claimed in an interview that people "are more likely to see a show when it's all in German) German audiences ARE fine with shows in English. English-language tours of shows like West Side Story, Jesus Christ Superstar, Evita, etc. sold out even 30 years ago when people spoke way less English than they do now.
And of course Meat Loaf is just as famous here as everywhere else - those who'll go and see Bat in Oberhausen, go in knowing the original songs. And it's not like the show has some big convoluted important plot where understanding every word matters.
(This said... understanding the lyrics in Hamilton DOES matter, but the thought of a German translation still makes my skin crawl)

Just had an e-mail that TodayTix are doing one of their 24 hour offers on tickets for performances in the next 30 days.
Tickets available from £15.00 each (which I think are normally £65.00) whilst others in the theatre are reduced to £25.00 and £35.00. From the date I selected the seats where quite far back but could be of interest to someone here.

Granted I'm English speaking, but surely with the 'jukebox' style musical, audiences already know (most) of the songs, in English so the argument falls down before it even starts that they won't want to hear them in English (I know I'm preaching to the choir here but still)

The £15 tickets are normally £33 I think and the £25 tickets are normally £65 (both are higher at weekends). The £35.00 tickets claim to be £93 off but I just did a search for £25 seats and £35 seats and it gave me tickets in the exact same row almost next to each other! What's good about this offer is it includes Saturdays which most of the offers have excluded up to now I think. |

Saw the show last night, Simon was on for Strat and Georgia for Raven.
Georgia was absolutely incredible, she had a really powerful voice and managed to massively tone down Raven's whiney-ness, I didn't want to strangle her in the same way I do with a lot of Christina's performance. Her Heaven Can Wait and It's All Coming Back To Me Now were particular highlights.
Simon I'm unsure about. He cracked a couple of times on the big notes and seemed to be out-sung by Georgia, or anybody else he happened to sing a line with. I also kept losing him in amongst the ensemble in the big numbers, he doesn't draw your eye in the same way Andrew does.
The new Blake was very good, very powerful voice, I'm not sure if the original Dominion Tink has left since I last saw it or if we had an understudy, but he was good too. Georgia, Danielle, Sharon and Rob were the real stand outs for me though.

The Strat schedule for both this week and next week says that Monday, Wednesday matinee, Thursday and Saturday matinee is Simon Gordon, and Tuesday, Wednesday evening, Friday and Saturday evening is Jordan Luke Gage. Edit: Saw someone beat me to it by a few seconds  It is weird they're doing 4 each though, unless they're trying to get Jordan up to 6 a week gradually. |

I believe it is 4 shows each atm as the new 2nd Cover Strat, Barney Wilkinson, is still in rehersals - if Jordan gets ill they are down to a single Strat. I imagine when Barney begins it will be a 5, 2, 1 schedule as before (or 4, 2, 2). Andrew Polec rarely did more than 5 shows a week even though he’d been the lead for just shy of two years! |

Out of interest, do they update the "Obsidian Times" photos? I went to the matinee a week ago, and there was no Obsidian Times at all on the chairs. I’m due back in 2 weeks time, so I will be able to update after that! |
