Kwame Kwei-Armah will direct his final production as Young Vic Artistic Director with the world premiere of A Face in the Crowd, a cautionary tale about the dangers of celebrity, power, and politics based on the classic ‘50s Hollywood film, with music and lyrics by Elvis Costello and book by Sarah Ruhl, from 10 September – 9 November.

Not sure if this has been announced but YV has tweeted that the leads are Ramin Karimloo and Anoushka Lucas.

This seems topical re. people riding their fame on a popular media spot, then steering it to politics!
In the film Larry Rhodes, the central hustler/fame-builder, mocks his advertiser (a mattress company) so they pull their advertising; but with people burning their mattresses in the street to support their hero the fame of the mattress company also grows - increasing sales.
What happens to those who promote and get close to Larry Rhodes is a key part of the film. Reminiscent of Trump's outlandish relationship with the 'My Pillow' magnate Mike Lindell. Lindell currently faces a $1bn defamation lawsuit from voting tech companies after his election denying claims in aid of his beloved Trump.
The central character in 'A Face In The Crowd' begins with less than nothing - so no similarity there at least.
This sounds like a good property to adapt right now - but as a musical with songs by Elvis Costello I'm not sure. Sounds like a great role for Ramin Karimloo though.

I’m curious why only half the house is on sale for this.

If it doesn't work with Elvis they always could call Rufus to fix it.

Booked the moment they mentioned Ramin Ditto. Haven't been to the Young Vic for years! I had a booking for something within the last 6 months but a previous rail strike put paid to me getting there.

Ah, man! My first booking - Wednesday 18.09.24 matinee - has been cancelled (it's being filmed on 19.09.24 and press night is 20.09.24). Web site says "sold out" ....
I've been asked to give 3 alternative dates and the email says there's good availability through the run. Hope I'll get as good a seat as I booked.

Same thing happened to me. Had booked 20th as soon as booking opened, was told today it's no longer open to the public. It's now Press Night. I've also given 3 dates and I'm sure it'll all work out, but it seems quite shambolic planning to put tix on sale when these things weren't totally confirmed. Regardless, I'm excited!!

I'm due Thursday but now I'm a bit less sure of that.... Me too. I called the theatre on Tuesday and they assured me Thursday's performance would be going ahead. We will see!

I was going tonight too and received an email from the young vic announcing the cancellation and asking patrons to contact them to reschedule or get a voucher/refund if you cannot attend.

Maybe it's because I booked through someone else.
