It was a mad idea in the first place but the rumours of it being cancelled literally as they were loading into the theatre are correct, that's very poor behaviour.

And to no one’s surprise, the show has allegedly been axed entirely from its Broadway run just 3 weeks before it was due to open. The ticket sales are shockingly poor which is a shame, but what’s even more infuriating is the team that allowed this to happen. I feel bad for Rob:( If this is true, it's really, truly a shame. Rob came in touching distance of a dream come true and was apparently led up the garden path. By all means, take the show to New York to try it out over there, but it's an Off-Broadway show. Maybe even Off-Off-Broadway. If well received, they could think about scaling upwards further down the line. |

Nothing more than rumours, but it seems everyone was sent home and told the run isn’t happening. The second half is that it’s because they couldn’t quite get the final funding in order which I find slightly hard to believe but I guess it is Broadway. Not a big Rob Madge fan but I feel awful for him, I was surprised it went to broadway and not somewhere smaller in NYC and maybe ultimately it should have done. |

No, someone working on the show has confirmed the cancellation on Reddit, saying they were hoping for the fall instead now.
It was madness to begin with and certainly in this extremely crowded spring season. Part of me feels sorry for Rob Madge, but even if he is not producing himself, surely he could and should have said, no, this is too big for me, let's do it in a small Off-Broadway theatre or book a week's run at a place like 54 Below or The Green Room to see how the material goes down in New York and create a bit of buzz. You can always upscale later if it's a huge success, but once you've crashed and burned on Broadway, you're pretty much done.

By all means, take the show to New York to try it out over there, but it's an Off-Broadway show. Maybe even Off-Off-Broadway. If well received, they could think about scaling upwards further down the line. That’s the thing. I don’t know the New York scene well but somewhere like new world stages would have seemed a better fit! To UK fans Rob would have still done New York but more manageable surely? |

Although I loved the show in London I have to say i was rather surprised when I read of the Broadway run. I was thrilled for Rob but did feel it was rather ambitious. As others have mentioned maybe an off Broadway short run and then transfer if it takes off, the same way it was done for their London shows.
Hope they can sort something out and Rob gets the chance to perform in NY.

And comments on reddit from ticket holders say they've been contacted saying its cancelled. So nothing official but odd to have an unsubstantiated rumour come from various sources |

Probably necessary to make the production financially viable, even though it's essentially an unknown show with an unknown performer in a large Broadway house? Absolutely. |

Just a sadly misjudged first step in NYC. As mentioned, if this had done a few weeks in an off-Broadway venue first it MAY have picked up enough steam to warrant a transfer but I doubt it.

Broadway was just such an odd next step for this show. It made no logical sense whatsoever. It's a very fringe-y show overall. It probably wouldn't have even made it to the West End if it hadn't been for the number of empty theatres looking for fillers post-covid.
Even an Off-Broadway run would have struggled. It would certainly have needed DAZZLING reviews from New York critics in order to sell.
Did it do any international comedy or fringe festivals in places like Australia or Canada? They would have been a better fit really.

It's such an intimate show that has a crafty feel, it's made for fringe or off-broadway.

Tickets no longer available for this on Telecharge who were the main provider so this is dead - really sad for Rob but Broadway was always going to be hard.

To echo what's been said - they'd be much better doing it off Broadway at a smaller venue for a limited run. The producers have shot themselves in the foot. Start small and then another extension. Can't say I'm surprised.

These producers are clearly absolutely clueless.

“ The show will face an uphill battle to capitalize a second attempt at a Broadway run next year following widely acknowledged poor ticket sales by Broadway standards, and investors shaken by a run that never made it to first preview.
This is also the second project by producers Tom Smedes, Heather Shields, and Peter Stern to be postponed before opening in New York. The producing team also postponed their run of the Drag-Comedy musical Death Drop which had been slated to run at New World Stages last year. No further production details have been announced since the postponement. ”
The producers clearly are out of their depth.
