Nicholas was, mostly, a fairly bland leading man in musical theatre although he did have a successful BBC sitcom in the early 80s in which he was a fairly bland leading man. A good comedy character actor he ain't. |

So I abandoned booking Opening Night, thanks to your insightful reviews, and purchased a ticket for this.
£55 for restricted side view. A preview night too. "Ow much!?" she exclaims. (I paid half that in a similar seat to see Angela Lansbury...granted that was 2014 lol). The Apollo prices put me off for ages, but at least I know I'll have a better time here with something I'm familiar with rather than risking seeing Sheridan Smith and co. for a cheaper price.

A good comedy character actor he ain't. At least he is now old enough to enjoy "Grandma's Party". I remember him as a vampiric Wagner in Ken Russell's bizarre "Lisztomania". Not bland there! I was just checking to see if I’d seen him in anything but I’d forgotten quite what a notable career in musicals he’d had - the lead in the original production of Jesus Christ Superstar, lead in the first UK production of Grease, original production of Cats, lead in Fiddler on the Roof, 42nd Street, lead in the first tour of Barnum, the famous Joe Papp production of Pirates of Penzance, lead in Blondel, Camelot, Singin’ in the Rain, Doctor Doolittle etc etc. That’s in addition to his pop career, his TV BAFTA for best comedy performance, and a whole host of straight plays and films. The man’s a national treasure. |

Ironic he is playing the Major when he had a top 10 hit with "Dancing With The Captain". Paul is 80 this year, that makes me feel old.

That is simply not possible! I hadn't realised he was quite that old but he was one of the leads in Hair as far back as 1968. I always enjoyed him in Just Good Friends and he's had a pretty good career. Must have done well being a producer of some of those Grease tours over the years too. |

Wow - that means Paul Nicholas is older than Ballard Berkeley was when he played the Major in the TV original. It first aired in 1975, so he was 71 at the time. The second and final series aired four years later in 1979.

Thanks, found a front row seat going spare for £20, so have booked that. There are a lot of decent single seats about. It just takes a bit of clicking through dates.

Thanks david. Picked up a single ticket in row D of the stalls for a Saturday matinee for £15. I'd resigned myself to not going after seeing the prices originally. Can't complain about £15!

Cleese also said that his stage adaptation of Life of Brian was also due in 2024 on the West End, so I wonder if this has replaced it? He's still talking about LoB, so it sounds like it's still on the way! |

Cleese has always said he is short of money because of his ex wives but he has also said he spends £17.000 on Beaty therapies to look young. Hence the stage adaptations coming in thick and fast. Good luck to him, his original FT is a classic.

John's three or so divorces cost him a lot of money so he did his one man show and the Phython 02 shows would have been a nice earner too. I think he said he wanted to spend more time writing but had to do his one man shows to pay for the alimony. Or possibly there had been a big dent in his bank balance and he wanted to restore it.
John was open about his hair transplants and admitted in an interview promoting A Fis Called Wanda all his teeth were implants which was 35 years ago plus so he's spent on things like this before. He is 84 now so if he can afford to pay for these treatments and it aids his health good luck to him.

I booked to see it as there seems to be some dynamic pricing going on for single seats. I have low expectations but I least I know it'll be funny.
