On the Starlight Express website they have announced that there will be a cast change on 13th May 2018. I believe a lot of the ensemble cast members are leaving as well as Abigail Dever (Dinah). There's also a mention of a "world premiere" of some kind on 12th June so can only imagine it'll be the anniversary show.

I just pray to god they don’t include that awful new carriage song I Got Me. I’m going to Bochum in June so will report back.

The workshop in London in June. They want to keep the show fresh and show women in power and taking the lead!

Fair enough. There were rumours going also about them removing Ashley as she's now seen as a bit controversial and outdated due to the smoking legislation. Anybody had any word of that?
I got a rough translation from a German newspaper article the other day and they are closing the show for three weeks. June 12th is their official re-opening day. So there must be quite a few substantial alterations being made. Will be interesting to hear back.

So I think this is likely to be the biggest overhaul since the 'new' London 1992/3 version. Speaking for myself am very excited. I think most likely whatever they do though there will be some resistance from the fans - people, myself included, get attached to there version they know and love.
Having said am excited, am also slightly nervous lol. Taking the opportunity I missed with London to visit again before the changes so I can see the current version before it's no more. Have booked for the farewell weekend. Also wondering if to go once more before that. After years of Bochum practice, I've got it down to a cheap and easy combo of hotel and flights!

Bochum has never closed like this for three weeks so yes I’m sure there will be more changes than just making Papa into a woman. I presume Ashley will go, I Got Me carriage song added, Girls Rolling Stock removed and other changes. What gets me is having seen the show in Bochum every few years over the past two decades it doesn’t ever improve the show, in fact the opposite. The original Du Alien (Only You), LiebessExpress (Engine of Love) version was simply the best and most magical before they started playing around with everything. It’s a desperate attempt to keep the audience coming in I suppose....

Georgina Hagen has been the first 30th anniversary cast member to be announced. So glad to see she's returning as she's my favourite Pearl. She was very popular with the fans so I'm sure many will be happy with this news.

Georgina Hagen? The pretty but naïve one? The perky-breasted, giggly one night stand? Who looks good in tight jeans? Who was put here to be stared at? Who’s pretty good at being pretty? And who’d rather be up dancing than sat against a wall?
Great choice. If they announce another English language performance, I’m there in a heartbeat.

Saw the show last weekend.
Was fabulous as usual, BUT I was VERY disappointed to see that they have got rid of the 6 man operated follow spots and replaced them with automated follow spots which are not nearly as powerful. Especially when the actors were skating round the Parkett tracks, they were in semi darkness.
Am sure technology has advanced greatly and automated follow spots should be ok, but here they really didn't work. Wonder if is a cost cutting exercise? 6 less people to pay.... Tweeted and FB'd the show to see if this is a permanent change but no response.
In other news, tickets have now been released for the launch of the 30th anniversary version. 6th-10th June are marked as previews. 14th AND 15th June marked as "Jubilaums-Show" which I think means birthday show. No idea why two. Like the Queen, Starlight has two? Anyway, they come at an inflated price - trying to decide if can afford to go; would deffo like to be there!

They have four “Jubiläumsshows” actually. Every evening show from 14th to 17th June. Still debating if I WANT to afford that or if I’m fine with just going to a preview show... (which is basically half the price compared to one of the birthday shows...).

Wonder what's special about them (and what's different to the matinees on those dates) to justify the massive price hike! Will be v keen to see the new version ASAP though.

Apparently they cast Reva Rice (the original Pearl on Broadway) as Mama.

Apparently, they justify the prices with: red carpet, meet & greet with some of the cast, welcome glass of champagne, pre-show in the auditorium, access to the aftershow party including finger food buffet and memorabilia for the 30th anniversary (I guess something like the book they handed out for the 25th anniversary). I know a lot of past cast members have been invited for one of the weekend shows, so I'm tempted to book that but it's still a massive price hike compared to "regular" shows...

Hmmmm, might just have to get a ticket and worry about the debt later! Think must be the Sunday night with the ex cast members as most of rows 1-5 and Parkett are blocked out for that performance! Assume Arlene will be there :-) hopefully ALW too.

The main anniversary show is Sunday 17th. There are 215 previous cast members returning! Great news they cast Reva - I’m sure she’s on a pretty packet! I wonder who will understudy her?

Just booked Sunday 17th - couldn't resist! I am very tempted to book but the prices are really putting me off... The two confirmed understudies for Reva are Bianca Atalaya and Rochelle Sherona. Bianca did Aladdin in Germany before and Rochelle just graduated from Urdang. I definitely know of one of the staying girls to understudy Momma as well but not allowed to say yet.

I wonder did it put anyone (Papa’s) out of a job? I know Richard Woodford is currently Electra so it wouldn’t affect any understudies. Also would the covers to Mama be swing ensemble surely? Carraiges and Componants? So many questions and I’m still sad they didn’t bring Belle back.....

One of the understudies is leaving (not sure if related to the changes as well), the other two are staying but obviously with different covers. The understudies for Mama are either swings or in the ensemble but not all their roles have been confirmed.

They've announced the very predictable anniversary special discount - 30,000 tickets at 30 Euro, bookable this weekend only for performances from 18th May through to the end of the year.
I dunno if I should book. Part of me is curious to see what they'll be doing this time, part of me can't bear to see the show further messed with.
