The thing is this is the norm now. Announcements of announcements, always hyped up and in many ways it worked. We were all focused on it, and I'm sure they knew what they were doing. November is usually when they announce the new season, and the font and image looked like a season announcement. I don't think it's a 'fire the marketing manager' situation at all.
OAT are far from the only ones to do it, performers and other creatives and even corporate businesses do it all the time.
In some ways we only have ourselves to blame, we should know by now that these type of teases usually lead to nothing.
That said its risky as you can annoy your customers and create bad feeling, or even worse, create apathy where people stop caring about when you announce things.

Note to venues: Don't annoy the punters by building up lacklustre announcements.

Who cares?! Can’t believe anyone is getting annoyed by this announcement.
Yes this show sounds rubbish- but they still have a big musical which they will announce at some point.

Echoing the above - I can't understand why it's bothered people so much 😂

Ah well, it all makes for good fun. At least the speculative debate and discussion marked a change from the usual "in the know" rumour-mill games that usually take place on Theatreboard.

It was a single picture that people leapt upon and made some big assumptions about what it meant.
The most alarming bit though, was the excitement over the possibility of it being Brigadoon. The show is a complete snoozefest. Robert Meadmoore crooning through the score at the Victoria Palace only confirmed that.
When will The Secret Garden get an OAT production??

But is that a Hobbit Hole in the background of the image?

If you are going to put out a teaser image, you are inviting people to engage in speculation. The vast majority of those will be adults with an interest in theatre. It is hardly surprising when a good number of people are disappointed to find out it was for a show for children and not their preferred project. Showing a picture of heather is absolutely going to invite people to think of Brigadoon. Any theatre marketing executive should be clued up on the repertoire to see the likely connections. And Brigadoon is not a snoozefest. It is a lush romantic score full of memorable tunes. Might not be to your taste but it is a show that has a following and one that would work well in an outdoor setting.

But is that a Hobbit Hole in the background of the image? Yeah OAT could be trolling us and use this image again to announce "The Lord of the Rings" as part of next season.

Next time anyone wants to know what heather looks like, please ask a northerner. I could have dismissed Brigadoon within seconds.

I hear due to 'global events' Fiddler is not going to be staged next year.

I hear due to 'global events' Fiddler is not going to be staged next year. Ah, that's a shame. It's a show with such universal themes, regardless of faith or denomination. And in North West London, there is a massive Jewish community.

I hear due to 'global events' Fiddler is not going to be staged next year. Great, that'll free up space in the schedule for 'The Lord of the Rings'...

Cowards. Appeasing a mob is never a good look at all. Can you explain? It sounds like the theatre is worried about anti Israel protests targeting the show.

If that is genuinely their thinking, they should hang their heads in shame.
There is nothing pro Israel in Fiddler.
Anyone who protests a production of Fiddler is simply being anti-semitic.

It might not be the OAT's decision, it could be the rights holders having reservations.

Productions are already scheduled up and down the country for 2024 so doesn't seem to be a rights issue

Hmmm, not sure there’s much merit in having strong opinions on 3rd hand rumours of rumours.
Fiddler had never been announced.

The website says full season announcement is this month. Does anyone have any idea what day this might come?
