Anyone think this will tour after the Barbican run? Classic musicals don't seem to do all that well on tour these days, and Kiss Me Kate isn't an overly familiar show to most people. I doubt it'll tour, but they might film it like they did with Anything Goes.

I think the last west end show that had a proper big cast was 42nd Street and An American In Paris. ...and An American In Paris had a tiny band. It did not sound good. You cannot do justice to that music with a band of 13.

If it's well received it could transfer back across the pond too.

I thought Totoro was expensive, but the seat I paid £107 for recently is now £175 for Kiss Me Kate. OUCH

Methinks there will be deals a plenty for this. Dunbar isnt going to start a box office stampede and only we know who Stephanie J B is.

Methinks there will be deals a plenty for this. Dunbar isnt going to start a box office stampede and only we know who Stephanie J B is. For what it’s worth, I’ve noticed a trend in more people asking the question “is it good” than “who’s in it” of recent years. So when word gets around that this is, inevitably, brilliant (even just SJB), the ticket sales should pick up. Fewer and fewer people are advanced booking since Covid, hence advance sales being high and on-the-day sales being hugely discounted therefore the profits evening themselves out. Hopefully more shows will favour talent over stunt casting the way that this show has cast SJB. Nobody wants to see Janet Street Porter play Mary Poppins anymore.

I think Adrian Dunbar will attract more people than the casts of their recent musicals.
He has been in two hit UK shows recently, which are also popular with the market that can afford the tickets and want to see the show. Not saying it will sell out on his name alone, but I think its got more a head start than Anything Goes and A Strange Loop

Oh I think they cast Anything Goes just about as perfectly as you can cast a musical these days tbh
Robert Lindsay and Felicity Kendal well known to TV audiences, Gary Wilmot a good crossover name from TV and stage, and then a knockout Broadway star as the lead?
I'm convinced the gangsters will be two soap stars, and that'll be what they start using in the advertising/wheeling out for TV interviews.

I have a Barbican voucher but can't decide whether to rebook Totoro, book for this or wait to see if there's something big and good to be announced for the winter season...

I'm glad that a less popular classic musical is getting a grand outing over here though.

Line of duty is massive, and Ridley is a success on ITV with a second series coming

My vote is for Charlie Stemp as Bill Calhoun…
And bring over Robyn Hurder as Bianca or cast Sophie Carmen-Jones or Zoe Birkett

LOVE the idea of Charlie Stemp and Zoe Birkett ❤️ I guess the question is would Charlie take a supporting role? I mean Crazy For You proved that he can't sell a show, so I doubt he'll be cast in another star vehicle any time soon. Bill is a brilliant supporting role that earned nominations to several actors who played him. As good as he is at what he does, he also has very little range, and Bill is right up his street in terms of dancing, acting and singing. Unless they need to recast Cornelius in Hello Dolly, it's the best role for him in the upcoming season.

Less enthusiastic about Georgina who I thought was pretty average in Oklahoma - and Lois is a great part so I hope she's good.
Stemp? Thrilled.

it is clear that Charlie was the only choice for the role and Jack Wilcox will likely be in the ensemble...LOL
