I was also there yesterday and Georgina Onuorah upstaging everyone was not what I had on my bingo card. Itâs a shame thereâs not more for the character to do because she killed it.

Was Stephanie in the show this evening (Monday)? There are photos of her in Paris on her IG⊠Did she go on a quick getaway? If so good for her! No one works harder as a performer. Sheâs amazing!!

Was Stephanie in the show this evening (Monday)? There are photos of her in Paris on her IG⊠Did she go on a quick getaway? If so good for her! No one works harder as a performer. Sheâs amazing!! Yes she was! I had seen that and was worried she wouldnât be on but she was and of course she gave an excellent performance. AD actually seemed *worse* than when I saw it a week or so ago. I went back because I got a row E centre stalls seat in the rush and I couldnât turn down another opportunity to see SJB playing a role rather than in a concert performance. I think others have mentioned that Adrian Dunbarâs comedy performance is good and he can mostly hold a tune but when heâs on stage alone or stomping around in Petruchioâs awkward looking boots his performance really falls short for me. Everyone else is so good that it really stands out. Love Georgia Onuorahâs voice and the gangsters are really excellent, so funny, but I wouldnât have booked for this without SJB and she doesnât disappoint. A lot of missed mic cues both times I went. Last night I was close enough to hear the un-micâd voice but the first time I wasnât and it was very frustrating. I would recommend even to people who donât like classical musicals which are usually really not for me. The story doesnât hang together for me ****SPOILER**** why would Lilli come back for heinous Fred - both of her options seem pretty terrible to me - but maybe iâm looking at it through a too contemporary lens. Anyway, 3.75* for me.

Oh the life of a theatre goer. One minute you can be watching a really frustrating show then the next you can be watching something that really warms the heart (and stomach with a pre show meal from the Barbican kitchen) and puts a smile on your face. After this afternoons lack lustre trip to New Islington, I was hoping for better things with my trip to the Barbican this evening to round off my double show day. Thankfully this evening really was a lovely return to the Barbican after my previous visit to âAnything Goesâ and I am so glad I asked to be moved from the front row of the stalls to the back of them as I think I would of really struggled to see very much from my original seat in the front row.
Whilst maybe not hitting the heights of â Anything Goesâ, I certainly had a great time watching this and there was plenty to enjoy with this latest offering from director Bartlett Sher. Firstly it was great to finally see SJB on stage and tick that off the list. A great voice with some wonderful comic timing in her acting. A real joy to watch the lady in action. Now Adrian I didnât mind. Loved the acting and his comedy moments went down well with tonightâs audience and the singing actually wasnât that bad. Aside from SJB, it was Georgina Onuorah that was the vocal standout here. Her Act 2 solo was for me one of the standout moments of the show. Hammed and Nigel made a wonderful double act as the gangsters. to brush up your Shakespeare. I did enjoy the brief breaking of the 4th walk here to include the audience in a short sing along for brush up your Shakespeare.
For the dance numbers, the Act 2 opener was a great moment here and seeing both Jack and Charlie in action was a real crowd pleaser. I am glad that Charlie got his moment to shine with his dancing in Act 2.
A well deserved mention to the 16 piece orchestra led by Stephen Ridley. They sounded wonderful in the Barbican auditorium tonight and the sound mixing was spot on allowing both the orchestra and cast to be clearly heard together. With some nice costumes on show from designer Catherine Zuber and a great set from Michael Yeargan that filled the stage nicely, overall a great way to the day. I am also impressed that I managed to get through the evening without getting lost in the centre so that is a bonus as well.

How's the design for this show. Whatever is on for the curtain call looks rather uninspired. anyone remember Opera North's rather gorgeous version?

Have any of the four leads been out of the show?

According to West End Understudies, Anna McGarahan is on as Lilli/Katherine today.

Saw this last night and enjoyed it far more than I expected to. Great stuff. Can the Barbican entice a Broadway star over to do a classic musical every summer please?
Only real negative is that I canât help agreeing that Dunbar was miscast. Heâs not bad as such but the rest are all musical theatre pros and it shows, with Block especially running rings around him. Heâd have been great as one of the gangsters, but needs a bigger performance for the lead.

According to West End Understudies, Anna McGarahan is on as Lilli/Katherine today. I had the real classic disappointment of booking a ticket almost entirely to see a particular performer, and that performer being off. Anna McGarahan did very well and is a talented performer. But what a shame. Didn't enjoy the show enough to want to go back and try again, will have to find SJB in something else, somewhere in the future. Adrian Dunbar was actually fine I thought other than his slower number towards the end, if that wasn't in there I don't think I'd have had any great criticism of him. He seemed quite confident and at ease in contrast to what I was expected from commentary on here. For me the whole affair is perfectly fine but just not funny enough for something that's set up to be a musical comedy, and the musical within a musical sequences in the first act especially were way way too long. Just not for me, Kiss Me Kate.

Was Stephanie back tonight? Sadly no cover on tonight whoâs name escapes me! Which is a shame as it will be my only visit as itâs just not for me. I didnât hate it but didnât love it either which usually means itâs a one visit show

Dunbar is miscast but I thought he just about winged it. But even then - not good enough. The So In Love reprise was flat.
Stephanie, Georgina were amazing. The actor playing Paul outshone Charlie Stemp imo
Production design / revolving set I really enjoyed. I am perplexed by the orchestra having a gap in the stage. Kept thinking âsomeone is going to fall inâŠâ
