A belated response but wow, as many others have said already,, that is how you put on a concert performance at the Palladium! Seeing Louise Dearman and Rachel Tucker reunite is something special in itself (they will always be the OG Elphie and Glinda in my heart) but with this score, it was just off the scale.
Rarely do you find two performers whose vocals just combine with such fluidity. It is deeply intense but reassuringly satisfying all at once. The mid-show standing ovation for the powerful duet ‘I Will Never Leave You’ was richly deserved.
Side Show’s score is almost too big, each number and showcase for this talented cast. I’d be fascinated to see how the overall piece holds up as a full production, including book scenes. I suspect it won’t happen though.
You can only rate a show based on what it is. As far as single-night concerts go, I think this is as brilliant as it can get.
