I love the original album. So very French!

Managed to get my ticket booked for this - really looking forward to seeing a French production.
Funnily enough, it was significantly cheaper than getting a comparable ticket to the West End production (66€ for 3rd row stalls compared to £99).

If it includes 'Mon Histoire' - 'On My Own' - it's not a staging of the original concept album. On the original concept album that melody is used for a song called 'L'air de la misère', and it's sung by Fantine.
The Cameron Mackintosh/Trevor Nunn/John Caird version of the show was translated back into French for runs in Montreal and Paris in 1990-91 (I saw it in Paris). There's a cast album, but it's been out of print for a very long time - pity, because it's one of the very best recordings of the show, with a spectacular cast.

I'm definitely planning on making a trip to see this - the website is here www.chatelet.com/en/programmation/24-25/les-miserables/ and it's described as "a new production in French" and says that Alan Boubil has reworked the libretto. I've been listening to the 1991 French album recently and it's quite fun (and good for improving my French comprehension!) to listen to how they translated the English show back into French.

I hate that I am in Paris in September and January and this is on in the middle!

Couldn’t resist booking this one - been too long since I was in Paris anyway!

A highlights recording has been released -- a week or so before this starts?! Sounds like it's from the sitzprobe or something. The recording seems to only be bought on Amazon France on CD and it isn't on streaming, but I obtained it through other means.
Definitely some lyric changes. Can't say just yet as I'm only just listening. But orchestra sounds full and lovely. And I'm hearing some of the classic Yamaha DX7 keyboard patches back again! I miss them.
I wish this was a staging of the concept album as I much prefer those lyrics haha

6 of the songs (with piano) have been put on YouTube
Yes, plenty of lyric changes. But I love the casting and the real gallic twang to the use of the language.

I'm shocked they changed almost all of this song. Even when they did the rewrite for that restaging it still retained the d'un vin rebelle lyric
I feel bad for Mr Boublil having to constantly change his lyrics all the time for international consistency when they were pretty good the first time
Now, if they keep doing all these translations back and forth please give us La Revolution Francaise in English! They did it in Chicago and just did a new complete French language production (that I unfortunately was unable to make!) Even a tiny workshop!

Bought an ebook just published of them looking back on the previous productions of Les Mis with some lovely photos and a short word about this production.
A lot of the lyrics have been changed simply as a matter of adding back to the work what fits the characters best; the poetic lyrics of the concept album and the 1990's rewrite don't really fit the characters as Alain sees them now so he thought it best to do it all over.
Apparently this production has been in the works for over ten years! Cameron, Alain and Claude-Michel were all reluctant but the directors kept designing their "dream production" anyways. When the Châtelet said they would program it, Cameron liked the designs enough to give them the rights to a non-replica production and then they all got involved creatively.
The recording was made for marketing purposes but it assured them that the cast for this is correct.

"Py, the director of the Châtelet, is thinking even bigger. “The goal is for it to become the standard staging, worldwide, for the next 40 years,” he said with a twinkle in his eye."
I'd love for this to tour so I can see it. Anything other than the current London staging would be great to see.

It feels almost eerie to see a Les Mis of this size again. It reminds me of the original French staging particularly in expressionist yet realistic design. I'd love to see this.
By the way this is confirmed to have English surtitles so I would be interested to see how this is for those going if they're just the Kretzmer lyrics or if they're a literal translation.
I've also heard that this will be being filmed for the show's anniversary. Time will tell because this is all very interesting!
An interview containing rehearsal footage:

Looking forward to seeing this in a couple of weeks. I can’t bring myself to see the show in London anymore so it will be nice to see a different production.

Can you ask if they plan an extension / another run later? Considering how well this sold, it seems a no-brainer as Cam Mack never wastes a chance to grab more coin.
I was too disorganized to arrange a trip to Paris now (and my hope for the return of another favorite show did not materialize), but I'd quite like to give this a go myself.
