My Favourite Things: The R&H Concert/Cinema/Sky Arts

This was a treat in every possible way. A first class night at the theatre and a really warm reception from the audience.

Even Michael Ball, who I’m not usually a fan of, did very well. The entire cast was first rate.

Julian Ovenden could sing the phone book and I’d tell him to hit me with those S’s again. What a voice.

Audra is incomparable and at this point Marisha Wallace deserves honorary national treasure status.

Andrew Lloyd Webber was there in the evening? Do tell!
In the matinée we got a recorded intro.

It was a lovely speech and he told how Oklahoma nearly didn't happen and how the show in previews had a different name. He said he has the original poster in his office.

I felt the same. I tried to remember all the songs performed afterwards and counted 30! I wish they had cut a few out so it wasn't necessary to perform much shorter versions (Soliloquy was so good yet it was disappointing to only get to hear a few seconds of it!).

Probably money. You could see that they put a lot of money into this concert and a cast at the top of their game.

Yes. As I recall he said Richard Rodgers's daughter, Mary gave him the poster and the name of the musical on it is "Away We Go," which nondescript title he agreed didn't sound like a hit. Apparently, the title was changed after the song "Oklahoma" was drastically reworked in previews.

Omg I would’ve killed to see AJ and Marisha sing impossible!!!

Does anyone else feel like AJ Casey never gets her flowers? She’s been in the biz a long time and she is always heavily featured in these types of things (see Sondheim’s Old Friend’s Gala) but she is never billed
