I hear on the Elaine Paige show last Sunday, that Chichester is going to get all 'magic a do', with Diane Paulus is going to bring he production over to the south coast next year.
One I will be looking forward to then.

Is that the production that was on Broadway with Patina Miller and Andrea Martin?

It seems very unusual/unlikely that Chichester would house a commercial Broadway transfer like that, I'd assume they'd create an entirely new production.
But then again, all could change with Daniel Evans as the new artistic director.

Is it just me or does anyone else always imagine a show about the shaggy dog who flew in a spotty plane with Aunt Mabel?
Now there's an idea!

Well, it couldn't be any more peculiar an idea than Pippin the musical as it actually is, sooo...

If it is the same circus inspired Pippin...is it not a bit similar (style-wise) to Barnum...circus musical theatre has kind of been done there. It was only 3 years ago.

Oooooooo exciting! I did wonder if Chi would become, more or less, an out of town preview centre.
The new dude really needs to shake it up - my former racist/homophobic manager from Littlehampton (they are ALL bigots there) gets front row centre for everything at Chichester! Hilariously Gypsy was a little too racey for her!

What is Pattina Miller up to these days? I'd love to see her in this!

Maybe they invested heavily in circus props they want to reuse? Not thrilled by this news, I saw the Broadway production of this and really didn't get it at all. It's a very odd show, only redeemed by a handful of decent songs.

What is Pattina Miller up to these days? I'd love to see her in this! Regular role in Madam Secretary. She might be able to do a limited summer run inbetween seasons but i doubt it

Think it will be a total recast, which is fine.
Hasn't Chichester had bad experience with circus based shows?

I assume youre refering to barnum, and no,sold very well in Chichester. It was its future life that was an issue. But Chichester alone did well. It had sold well even before opening, its unique venue helped

Pippin was superb on Broadway recently - wow what performances, but the entire story is bonkers and downright abstract and odd.
We have all seen circus themed shows. Hope they think of something else. Great tunes - random show!

Take away the circus theme and you're left with a pretty dull show. It's only the circus stuff that makes it interesting.
The Menier production a few years back was not good.

The Menier production made much more sense. The video game theme worked so well. The effects were amazing as well.

I hope it doesn't come here. It is a dull show and not even the circus treatment could hide that.

All I really remember from the Menier production was that it was swelteringly hot in there. And this was several years ago so I was a bit younger then, therefore I can't blame the manopause.

Would it be in the main theatre or the Minerva? I can't see it selling well enough for the main theatre.

Re: transfer, Chichester will be hosting transfers from the RSC this year, so it's not unprecedented for them to bring something in from somewhere else.
Re: Chocolate Factory production, I REALLY liked it, but might have had my opinion swayed some by having only paid £10 for the privilege. I did REALLY like it though.

Having seen both versions (the Menier one and the American one that did a tour stop in Amsterdam this spring) I actually preferred the Menier version with the video game theme. The circus stuff was "okay" - but only that and certainly not on par with what you'd see at a proper circus, so it was all a bit "neither flesh nor fish" and the second act was terribly weak.

Whatever one thinks of the Diane Paulus production the Pippin score never sounded so good. The stunning new orchestrations by Larry Hochman completely revitalized and transformed the piece. I hope and trust they will be used at Chichester.

I hope they use the new song they added for the Menier version. I really liked that.

I never really understand the different versions of Pippin, can anyone provide a potted history?

I loved the Menier version. Completely bonkers and so loud. It was hot because of the amount of equipment used and was before they got air con.
