I guess it was inevitable after Totoro. Must-see, despite it not being one of my favourite Ghiblis.

A must see for me, not because I know anything about it but because I think John Caird is a superb director.

Missed opportunity not having it run opposite Totoro for a two-show day. This is a must-see for me! Anyone know how the coliseum usually display their subtitles?

No ticket time details but email just out from ENO
Not sure if that means ENO Friend have one and then mailing list subscribers have another but just in case, sign up!

This will do phenomenal business. I predicted as such for Totoro and I’m sticking my neck out and saying this will do equally well.

I adored Totoro, and I love Spirited Away. But as much as I'm looking forward to it, I really hate the Coliseum. Wish they'd chosen a different venue.

I feel sorry for the Coliseum staff already because you just know there’s going to be loads of people turning up that don’t realise it’s in Japanese.

Is this the first play to be at the Coliseum? If not than it will have surely been decades.

Very excited to see this again. Am equally surprised and happy that the Japanese cast are coming over.
But selfish me hopes I'm not seated beside some poor kid complaining to their parent, "But I don't understandddd".

Whilst I fully understand the authenticity of bringing over the production in the original language, I can't but wonder if that is the right commercial decision.
Sure, there will be some hardcore Gibli fans who watched the film in the original but I suspect most will have encountered it in the English language version.
Watching anything with subtitles requires a dual focus if you don't want to miss anything.
This will be a very visual production but it is hard to spot all the details when you are also having to follow the dialogue on a screen.
There is a slight irony in choosing the home of opera in English for a production in Japanese!

In London, I've seen Three Sisters in Russian at the Vaudeville I've seen The Damned in French at Barbican. I've seen Lily Allen in The Pillowman at the Duke of Yorks. I think I can handle Spirited Away in Japanese.

There will be people who will be fine with this.
One of my top theatre experiences of all time was Cheek by Jowl's Andromaque in French. But having a reasonable grasp of French, I only had to refer to the subtitles from time to time.
I am sure this will sell. But it would sell better in translation.

If people went to see childish and boring Totoro this might sell out...

Has there been an ENO members sale already? Anyone got prices etc? Ta 1. I don't think there is an ENO members sale, I haven't heard anything 2. I keep trying to post a link to WhatsOnStage but it's not working so please just pretend it is there and I am actually very clever (not)

At just a 12 week run, I wonder about a return later on with a UK based cast, with it in the English language. Not that I'd suggest anyone hold off booking in the hope if that.
