Correct! Interesting nugget of information re the interval... (Did it have an interval at the Dominion?) Incidentally, if you Google Image "Grand Hotel Shaftesbury Theatre 1991" you'll see a flyer matching the poster I have. On sale for $99!
Your turn, Adara!

Yay!
OK, this one requires some explaining.
In thinking about theatre trivia I know, I remembered a little nugget about an actor who was in* two Broadway musicals at the same time. In checking to see how easy that was to Google, I found out about an actress who was in (without an asterisk) two Broadway plays at the same time. Name the easily-googlable actress, and the more obscure actor.
*technically, anyway
Feel free to Google.

You're right about the easily googlable bit... struggling with the obscure bit and work calls. Good one

Hint: The actor is (probably) not known to you. The musicals are, however -- being British imports.

Googling I found Cynthia Nixon. I think the actor is Braden Danner who played Gavroche in Les Mis and the voice of the boy in Starlight Express! He actually did the two curtain calls apparently! On the same thread on another forum, I also found out that King Duncan from the McKellan/Dench Macbeth used to cycle over to the main house after he was murdered to appear in ...The Comedy of Errors!

Yeah I knew that one, I'm not sure there weren't other RSC examples from that era. It also happened at NT during Peter Hall's tenure but I forget the actor involved.

Yeah I knew that one, I'm not sure there weren't other RSC examples from that era. It also happened at NT during Peter Hall's tenure but I forget the actor involved. There was an RSC Comedy Of Errors that involved a big chase scene through the streets of Ephesus which happened at the same time as the interval of whichever Henry IV was playing next door at the time, so it wasn't unheard of for the likes of Hal and Falstaff to turn up on the streets of Ephesus every now and then.

I was intrigued by this one so I looked it up. Sorry if anyone knew it off the top of their head. Blimey. Polly James as Victoria ! Sven Bertil-Taube (uh ?) as Albert. "I and Albert". Sarah Brightman's stage debut. And to cap it all, incredibly, directed by John Schlesinger. Ha ha. One can only wonder at the notoriously irritable Schlesinger rehearsing that strange confection.

OK folks. Listen up. I've divided every actor in the entire world into two groups, A and B. Here are a few in each group:
Group A: Laurence Olivier, Simon Russell-Beale, Kathryn Hunter, Antony Sher, Benedict Cumberbatch
Group B: John Gielgud, Alex Jennings, Fiona Shaw, Derek Jacobi, Ben Whishaw
Question: Which group is Judi Dench in ? Why ?

Just for the record correct and as you said a very strange confection indeed. One of the few shows I attended where members of the audience shouted out verbal abuse!

My impulse is "neither group", as Group A appears to be "has played Richard III" and Group B appears to be "has played Richard II", and though I know she's done Richard II on stage and Richard III on film, I don't believe she ever played the title characters. So this is a really rubbish post tbh, but I've spent long enough typing it that I'm going to submit it anyway instead of slinking away silently into the afternoon.

No. My question was correctly posed. Every actor in the world goes into one group or the other without exception. Still, a good guess, and what you say about Richard II and Richard III is quite correct. Try again ?

I reckon the two groups are: those you think can act, and those you think can't... So the first question is which is which? And then the next question is whether Judi can or can't. I think you think she can, so I'll stick her in Group B.

I think you think she can, so I'll stick her in Group B. No. And long-term readers will know I don't think she can act. Anyway, I am able to put every actor in the world into one of those groups whether I have seen them or not.
