Some hideous costumes this week. Annabelle, that yellow polka dot thing, dreadful. Ellie, the skirt part of that red dress looked so cheaply made. Layton… just vile. All three distracted me from the dancing which is presumably the last thing they’re supposed to do. Re the viewer voting share, proof yet again that people don’t like Layton for whatever reason. So given that he’s likely to be in the bottom two again who needs to be there with him to have him sent home? Agree re costumes - no comparison to the US Dancing With The Stars where the costumes are usually fabulous. I had a friend visiting whose daughter in LA is big in the professional ballroom dance world, she'd been involved in some of the choreography of their tribute to Len Goodman (it's on YouTube, worth a look, take tissues). I wish they still showed Dancing With The Stars in the UK ... I was in the local takeaway last weekend (Blackpool) and two randoms in the queue started a chat about Strictly - one said Leyton shouldn't be in Strictly because he's a trained dancer, and the other said she's been saying the same thing. I've seen similar remarks from Facebook "friends". Whereas I really want an hour or whatever of being entertained - *shudders at the memory of Anne Widdicombe being dragged around the floor by Anton ...

I think there is a much needed middle ground between a no-hoper like Anne W and a trained West End professional like Layton

Contestants like Layton are great to have at the beginning at the show because they are good out of the gate and provide rare consistency.
By the end, they are still dancing well but aren't going to win because they didn't have a journey.
Occasionally you get someone with a dance background who starts well and who is also popular enough to win but it's rare. Jay is the one who comes to mind.
So why people get up in arms about dance experience I don't know. Those contestants hardly ever win and if they do it is because they have connected with the public so fair enough.

Bobby Brazier and Dianne Buswell will Salsa to 'I've Had the Time of My Life' from Dirty Dancing.
Nigel Harman and Katya Jones will dance the Charleston to 'Step in Time' from Mary Poppins.
Ellie Leach and Vito Coppola will perform a Quickstep to 'Belle' from Beauty and the Beast.
Annabel Croft and Johannes Radebe will Foxtrot to 'For Good' from Wicked.
Finally, Layton Williams and Nikita Kuzmin will perform a Paso Doble to 'Backstage Romance' from Moulin Rouge.
Dirty Dancing is not a musical. It’s a film with a soundtrack, and don’t bother mentioning that rubbish they had at the dominion, it’s not a musical.

Bobby and Leyton for the dance off based on those choices. Step in Time's a crowd pleaser, For Good is a tearjerker, and Ellie and Vito as Belle and Gaston could be both sublime and hilarious judging by previous performances.

If they can pull off the platter lift, B&D might have a wow moment
Nigel needs to have a clean routine again to stand a chance of surviving
Fingers crossed for him

Step in Time is a real crowd pleaser but some many lonely older women like Time of My Life so those two could canvcel each other out. Layton and Nikita will need to be technically sound with their Passo.
For showdances I think Ellie and Layton would be best but what JoJo and Katya could do with Annabel and Nigel resperctively would be a close call.

Backstage Romance is a compilation number
"Bad Romance" "Tainted Love" "Seven Nation Army" "Toxic" "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)"
They can't feature all of that in 90 seconds
So which song will they actually feature?

The dances are longer than 90 seconds at this stage aren't they? I thought they were more like 2-2.5mins? Regardless, what a snore fest choice of music - mainly movie-musicals..... How unoriginal.

Anyone know of any guest performances this week or group numbers? Will put it in a spoiler just in case anyone doesn’t like to know ahead of time: Joss Stone singing something from The Time Traveller’s Wife on the results show, and My Fair Lady and A Chorus Line group dances

Annabel, Angela, Krishnan and Bobby announced for tour. Annabel will be dancing with Graziano as Johannes does his own tours and Krishnan will be partnered by Jowita as I assume Lauren is part of Giovanni's tour.

A real shame and quite a problem for the BBC. I wonder if they will just carry the scores forward to next week. Shame they cant use musicals week to fill the gap in the programme with a performance or two but it's a bit late. And as for the 'live" results show...

Cracked rib isn't likely to heal in time for him to compete next week.
So we will see how this pans out

No I didn't expect them to put Nigel into next week at this late stage of the competition, even if he were able to dance. But they could just score the others this week and carry all totals over, rather than eliminate anyone. Anyway we will see.

As far as I understand Nigel has had to pull out of the series. To give a bye to last week's lowest scorer would have been unfair too. I guess they carry the voting forward to next week.
They can do a review of tonight's dances later on tonight when they record the results show. They can pad that out by possibly getting the musical act to do an extra number or maybe self proclaimed funniest man in the room Anton does a turn. They can cut time from the show with previews of Beeb Xmas schedule or next week's Dr Who etc.

I’m not suggesting it’s the case for a minute but if I were Nigel I would have realised I was just “fodder” and faked an injury to f*** the beeb producers off. It is so clearly a fix.

That was a show dance not a Paso. No matter how well staged, it was not a Paso.

When Bobby gets 9s despite the lifts being a mess it seems odd to get bothered by Layton at least managing to be worth watching.

For Good is a lovely song that's pretty easy to sing well if you learn the timing properly. Tonight's version was bloody terrible.
