Glad to see a report of this as I was puzzled that no-one seemed to have mentioned that it was coming up & now it has opened, reviews have been universally good. Based on reviews of US productions I'd already taken a chance & booked, so hoping there won't be any more train strikes announced yet.

Extra week added. After Accidental Death Of An Anarchist, that's two hits for Lyric in a row

LOVED this tonight. Wonderful characters and loads of belly laughs.
Even on a relatively cool day like today the theatre was unbearably hot - thought I’d chance it and break my rule of never visiting the Lyric in the summer, but I don’t think I’ll be breaking that rule again.

I wonder if this might get a further life? It does have commercial producers attached to it so it's possible.

I could see this play doing well in some of the good sized inner city region theatres.
Out of interest do the cast use Africian accents on stage or not and certain sayings could go over some people's heads if they don't know the cultural context of it?

African accents are used all around except for 1 American accent. There weren't any references that I didn't get. It's set in 1986 and the only one that might be missed by younger viewers is knowing who Bobby Brown is, but it's not really that important.

Thanks for that JambOr, it is a show if it tours I'd like to see it and whilst pretty worldly I was just wondering whether there may be cultural references I may not get. I can certainly remember Bobby Brown from his Don't Be Cruel era and even New Edition the teeny bop band he was in prior to that.

Have a spare £23 ticket for tonight’s performance if anyone is interested. Stalls Row K.

Enjoyed this tonight despite being very tired, but it was annoying that the performance started very late (& with no announcment or apology), yet even 30 minutes after the advertised starting time, latecomers were still being admitted, disturbing people in their row and causing them to stand and block the view of those behind; don't know why theatres are so slack about timekeeping and late arrivals.
However, the performances were very lively and engaging (I loved the dancing, too) and the audience was very attentive and enthusiastic, creating a good atmosphere. I did find it hard to hear some of the dialogue; several times there was a burst of laughter but I didn't know what had prompted it, not because of accents but a combination of lack of projection and fast delivery.

I saw this last week and thought it was brilliant.
Very funny, good energy and pace to it in just 80 minutes.
Theatre was absolutely packed out and it was well received.
As others have said, it did feel like a lot of people were attending the theatre for maybe the first time so there was quite a lot of rustling, *a lot* of latecomers too.
But overall and enjoyable play to see. Four stars.

Other group commenting non-stop When I asked them to sush, their reply was "we are enjoying the show", I told them fine but that I couldn't hear the actors because they were talking. They behaved a bit better after. A lot of reactions were panto style. Not a fan.
