What a treat this has been once again.
A brilliant showcase for classical music and exactly the sort of thing that the BBC should be preserving.
Can't call tonight's final.

I had the joy of being in the Hall for all of the heats and final. A worthy winner, I feel - not perfect, and an unambitious repertoire, but the most "complete" performer. But actually for the first time in several contests I'd have been happy if any of the five won, thought it was an extremely strong competition.

I was surprised but not unhappy. I preferred his programme from the round to the final. But he is clearly a talented young bass with a big future ahead of him.
I thought that the South African mezzo would win on the strength of her Rosina. That was a great way to end the evening. Her song cycle final choices showed her skill with contemporary rep as well.
The two UK finalists faded slightly compared to their rounds. Though I really did enjoy the Giulio Cesare opening. The Donizetti was also superb.
I was less taken by the South African soprano. Her music choices didn't show her at her best. I love the Letter scene as a piece but I don't think it is the right choice for this competition. I suspect her future is very secure and I can imagine her tackling roles like Elisabeth de Valois in a few years.
I do hope we get some countertenor representation in future years. They are a big part of the opera scene and we should see at least one per year.
