Based on how long the queue was last year I think you'd have to show up at the crack of dawn to have any chance of getting in, and I value my sleep too much! Plus I don't fancy standing for hours in a crowded place in this heat. Will sadly give it a miss.

I always think there should be some sort of priority booking for actual theatre goers. Like £15 to get in a ‘golden circle’ of sorts rather than queuing for hours with day trippers and tourists before inevitably being turned away as it’s full.
I used to go regularly back in the day. I also miss the Olivier Covent Garden stage. But I’m not sure I could hack it now. Like others, I’ll await the video footage!

I’m aiming for a few hours for both days as I’ve got shows booked over the weekend. I’m definitely taking a lot of water and sun cream with me.

I have such happy memories of this (remember the old Leicester Square - can you imagine trying that now). Hailstones through Jersey Boys was a memory. It's usually the Trooping of the Colour day, Saturday, isn't it? I recall watching the Red Arrows zipping over before now. I'll pop by on Sunday (in town for Tim Minchin Sunday evening). But won't stop if there is queuing. It's the final Pretty Woman on Sunday too, so might put my feet up in there if there's a last min ticket.

I think they need to move to a free ballot for tickets, getting too busy and lots of disappointed people travelling and not getting in.

Caught three ish hours from the pavement across the road from Trafalgar Square. Was a perfect spot until they reopened the roads after Trooping the Colour. I could hear most of it very clearly, see a bit of the stage and the big screens, plus I had plenty of space, could sit down for a bit and I was able to nip away for some lunch and come back to broadly the same spot I'd been at before.
Mamma Mia and Choir of Man were the highlights, but Six was also very good. Oklahoma didn't work at all - the song was far too quiet to fill such a big space, so that's me totally put off seeing it now. I also got to see some of the actors from Jersey Boys after they came off stage and some of the cast of Mamma Mia walking by - both in costume. And two of the actors from the next play going to Soho Place - The Little Big Things, were stood in front of me on the pavement for a bit, coincidentally with someone I follow on Instagram.
All in all a good afternoon spent.

From what I've seen all pretty strong so far except Hamilton...ouch. the king can't go high, and expected more characterisation.
Ouch...Aspects of love wasn't great either.

I heard Hamilton from somewhere behind the stage as I paused on my journey across London to catch the flypast! Sounded OK from there but my expectations were adjusted for distant vocals! That's said, Les Mis from the same vantage point sounded epic! |

Despite a very early start this morning (getting to Trafalgar Square for 7am), a really enjoyable couple of hours today with everyone in good spirits and voices to celebrate West End theatre. I didn’t stay for the full day as I had shows booked but the stuff I did catch Les Mis and Mamma Mia! are the standouts for me. I haven’t seen Oklahoma but based on todays performance I’m still not tempted to see it.

I could just about hear it, but it sounded like the kind of performance for a small, intimate venue. Not a West End theatre or stage at Trafalgar Square with a large audience. |

I’m never quite sure how well this works as a showcase for theatre. Always pretty hit and miss, even with shows I’ve seen before and liked. Actually put me off seeing stuff last year, so have only watched a few this time around.
Noticed people asking on the Moulin Rouge video why they hasn’t posted Jamie Muscato. Found an unofficial clip of it and even with slightly iffy sound and all the screaming and whoooing that has to have been one of the highlights.
What was the Annie Get Your Gun performance? The cast from the concert a couple of months ago? Seems odd.

On the Hamilton video a lot of the CHF fans (her husband is king george) are blaming the sound and saying the sound is always rubbish, like with Bad Cinderella the other year. Which is not just insulting to the sound team, but also not right as each video displays great performances.

His missus last year and now him? He couldn’t reach the high notes. Even the most terrible tech creative can’t save you if you can’t sing the notes as written. |
