ETO haven't announced anything for next year, which is unusual and a bit worrying. Does anyone know what is happening with them? I note that their usual time slot in Bath is taken by something else.

Nothing on ETO's website but this is from Hackney Empire's website. - I love a bit of Cenerentola

In the levelling Up agenda they have received quite an increase in funds, I wonder how we will see it? I'd like to see them exploring more of the 20th century repertoire, Wozzeck and Knot Garden would be wonderful

I've never seen either Manon opera live (and I don't know which of the two they're supposed to be doing) but from what I've seen & heard of recordings while both are good I don't like either as much as I do the ballet. Actually I'll be having a bit of a ballet then opera thing going on if they do do Manon next spring as the RB are doing Manon in January while previously the RB have just done Cinderella & ENB are about to do it then ETO are doing Cenerentola!

The Hackney Empire website says it's Puccini's Manon Lescaut (24th Feb) and Stravinsky's The Rake's Progress (2nd March). Rather exciting in that I've seen both only once, in the early 90s, so would very much like to see them again.

Good programme.
My first ever ETO production was Rake.

I was looking forward to Manon, not having seen it live, but it says the director is "fresh from a critically acclaimed Titus Andronicus" which makes me nervous!

Very tempted to go and see THE RAKE’S PROGRESS. I’ve never seen it, but would like to.

I was at last nights performance of Manon L and I really liked it. The production is fun and quirky and reminded me of the 'power house' days at eno, how the desert was created was wonderful. The production photos should be fun to look at!
The singing and orchestra was also really good.
I now can't wait for Rake

Oh dear, I was hoping they'd do a fairly straightforward production but clearly not. I've seen the majority of ETO's output since 2005 but with their new AD chaging the production style it looks like I'll be seeing a lot less of them.

I thought Rake was excellent. Good singing, playing and staging - ok it was a little cramped at times and i suspect not as Hogarth intended! A stylised production like Manon but this one made perfect sense
One of the best Rakes ive seen and id love to see the principles again in other roles.
Next season is Blonde Eckbert and The Snowmaiden. Im not sure if i fancy another snow maiden or to be precise, a Rimsky-Korsakov opera.

I loved the musical side of the production. Top class orchestra and the singing well delivered. Shadow has a lighter sound than many who have sung the role but it worked.
I don't yet know if it was a technical failure or bad lighting design that left the singers in darkness in many numbers last night. But it did impact on my enjoyment.
The production needs editing. Just too many ideas buzzing around. And I thought we left chairs being endlessly moved around the by the chorus back in the 90s. Just so dated.

Snowmaiden. Sounds and looks good but i just dont like the peice. Fuchs, cast and band made a good attempt at convincing me though.
Next season is I Capuleti e i Montecchi and some bits of Purcell and Finzi

They are certainly not going down a traditional commercial programming strategy route
