Count me in for ANY production of Sunset. Nicole will be sensational.

Perhaps the low sales to date (although as per other posts there’s lots of reasons why people aren’t booking as far in advance at the moment) will mean they decide to book a big name as Joe?
Does anyone know if that role’s been cast yet? And Max is the third wheel in this, so his casting is pretty significant too.

I suspect the choice of director is also very much a factor in this.
Lloyd has his fans but not everyone wants to see one of his radical reimaginings.

Jamie lloyd is a very trendy director. And when you look at many of the names he has worked with they are very of the moment and/or respected actors. Nicole doesn't fit either of those.
I think to the general public his name won't mean much, but I think for sunset/theatre fans there will definitely be some staying away. Or at least waiting for more information/reviews before booking.

I'm so annoyed this is JL to be quite honest - I find he doesn't care about the material ever and it's all 'concept over content' and it drives me mad

I agree - La Sherezinger doesn't have the prestige they think she does. She's Saturday night light entertainment fayre, and never had a solid solo career - just the occasional hit song.

His Evita stripped SO much back that all you were left with WAS the material. It proved just how well written the show is. I'm very excited to see what he does here.

Fair enough - I just find his direction doesn't care about the piece ever.

Problem with strip backed productions is when does it become a concert.

I think the strong passions that Lloyd provokes demonstrates that his style will not appeal to all lovers of the show or ALW musicals in general. He may be a selling point to some but if sales are as poor as has been suggested, his reputation may also harm sales.
I do also suspect that the choice of a leading lady with little or no acting experience will also be having an effect.
Again I acknowledge there are those who love her voice and way of performing. But to my mind, Norma is a demanding acting role. It is not just a matter of turning up singing a hit song and then taking a bow.
This is not a role for a novice. And, in terms of acting, that is what NS is.

Also the failure of Aspects to find an audience does seem the indicate that theatregoers are no longer attracted to ALW shows as they were.
Perhaps his actions and words over the past couple of years have impacted his popular appeal. Or maybe the market wants something other than his style of show.
Either way, something is failing to encourage people to book

Yes alw may not be as big a draw as people expect.
Even the big west end evita revival at the adelphi was a flop/greatly underperformed all those years ago. And at the time it was the most requested revival by audiences.
He hasn't had a new hit show in decades. I exclude school of rock as the movie really sold that to audiences.

Sunset is a limited run until January, I doubt they'll pull the run just because Aspects closed early.

Just seen Shenton post a screenshot of restricted view stalls priced £90.
F*ck off.

For clarity, the £90 restricted stalls were from TodayTix on Fridays and Saturdays. If you go directly to the box office they are £77.50.
Much more reasonable for a restricted view seat at the rear of the stalls.
Not.

Half way back with a bar in the way?

I don't think Luke Evans is in this. In his video he says he is doing a play and I know some people refer to musicals as plays sometimes, but on this occasion it is surely a proper play. I'm intrigued about what it is.

It would be ridiculous if he is. Joe should be younger than Norma, and Luke is in his 40s and tbh looks older.

Maybe he’s playing Norman Desmond and she’s playing Josephine Gillis?

He does say play, but he also refers to his past career as plays so it could be a musical. He also says at the end of the year so I doubt it's sunset as that's early autumn

Have to say I’d love to see him in this, but would only work if Norma was being played by Glenn or someone of her age. He’s lovely but he looks older than Nicole!
