Just get Patti back - she can still sing the hell out of it, as she proved during her residency at Leicester Square. I know, I know, she hates ALW and is busy now with marvel, but I can dream 😀 No thanks. Love Patti but she mumbles her words and you have no idea what she is singing. Diction please!

This sums up where I am with this. I would love it to be true, but "rumour cauldron" no doubt. (Still awaiting the "definitely happening" Starlight Express announcement). Yes I don't really see Nicole in this either. Much as I think she's wonderful and her Memory was utterly jaw dropping. I would also like to see what Jamie Lloyd would do with this. OAT Evita was iconic. I always think we lack ambition and sell ourselves short with the endless actress who can sing/singer who can act debate which Sunset threads are particularly fond of. Aim high - this needs a COMPLETE double threat who is an amazing singer AND an amazing actress. I refuse to believe there aren't such people out there. (Since everyone chucks their fave names in, I personally think Victoria Hamilton Barritt would be incredible in this). Everything is so "iconic" these days it's a totally meaningless term. I'm wearing my iconic 🩲, to match my iconic 🧦 while eating iconic🍕! There are other more imaginative adjectives out there! You could say that about all kinds of words. It is used way more that it was 10 years ago, but in the sense of it's current meaning, I think OAT Evita was iconic. Not sure you can police other people's descriptive language - the words I would use to describe things are only ever IMHO. I am however glad that your pizza was iconic. Yum yum.

Loved Patti in this. Her and Betty Buckley my personal favourite Normas. Slightly off-topic, but mine has got to be Glenn-1994. What she did with the part acting-wise is just breathtaking, imo. I mean, as far as I know, she's the only one to have portrayed Norma as a silent era actress so natural and devoted that she decided to remain a silent movie star even off screen and even when it was quite obvious to anyone that the silent movie era has passed never to return.

Not sure about cast or creatives. She's a great performer but this is not the role for her in my opinion.

For acting + singing, Close was my favorite. For voice alone, Buckley blew the roof off.

😂👏 They’ll get the chipboard out again too… Jamie Lloyd directing! Nicole scherzinger to lead as norma… So instead of coming down a staircase, Norma will be stepping off of a chair.

The OAT production of Evita looked so ridiculous I steered very clear. Really hope Sunset doesn’t end up like that shambles.

I came in towards the end of this thread to see what the kerfuffle was about, saw the name Nicole being bandied about and thought you were all chatting about Kidman, not Scherzinger: if thats correct you can count me out of this one: I saw the Glenn Close version at the Coliseum from the not so cheap seats up in the heavens and will make do with my memories of that one. 😝

Lots of confident people saying yes! Its happening, But no-one with a single detail about it.
My pick of people to play Norma would be Toni Collete. Fatastic actress, amazing singer, name recognition. Sorted.

It was a huge hit for the OAT and it was only Covid that prevented it from coming back to the Barbican for a season. The producers of Sunset can only hope for that kind of 'shambles'

Not sure about cast or creatives. She's a great performer but this is not the role for her in my opinion. Just the wrong side of 50 for me. She undoubtedly has a phenomenal voice. She could very well smash it, but it would be a very different Sunset. We need to pity Norma; she had it all but now she’s been left behind. I do not believe that this is the case with NS. She is still, if you will, smoking hot. You still definitely would. Many lines simply wouldn’t make sense.

Just saw Once on this Island and thought Gabrielle Brooks would be a terrific Betty Schaefer. Rob Houchen would be a terrific Joe Gillis and I think Joanna Riding would be a stellar Norma too. None of these are big names I know but they would be great in the roles

If it is Nicole then the production is dead in the water. She won’t sell seats, while she’s easily one of the best vocalists out there she’s definitely one of the least famous pop stars. There are many roles I myself would love to see Nicole in but this isn’t it nor would many others.
My main issue is the alternate. No doubt they’ll go for someone without name recognition but unbelievable talent who’ll send us on the boards into space with her performance (any number of the industry names mentioned already would be inspired). If CZJ or someone of that calibre plays the role I’ll have to figure out a way to see both Normas during my short stint in London.

When Nicole was in Cats, the whole run sold out. Now I’m not sure if it’s because of the nostalgia of Cats, it was the festive season, or if it was Nicole, but the combination of the three worked. That’s part of the reason why they brought the show back the following year with Beverley. I would never count Nicole out… And people in the US love her because she’s a judge on the masked singer.

Yes, Nicole Scherzinger wouldn't read as deluded when planning her "return" because she's still viable as an attractive, fairly young leading lady.
Norma just has to be a bit too old so that she's clearly missed her window. Brutal, but we're talking Hollywood in 1950 here.
