Possibly not a must see for those of you counting the days until you can see the Wicked or Moana movies (if you’re not keen on films overflowing with deadites, dismemberment, vomiting, insects, chewing glass and swearing, look elsewhere 🤣) but I saw this tonight and really enjoyed it.
I didn’t think much of the last ED film ten years ago and can’t say I was counting the days until another one was released but unlike that one, this was stylishly done, had a good sense of humour and didn’t outstay its welcome. The ending maybe owed a bit too much to The Shining but overall it was the best horror film I’ve seen in a long, long time.

Three stars from me. Not enough character development to actually care about any of them but tons of well-executed horror effects. Best not to think too hard about the internal logic of how the malign forces are able to behave. The cheese grater scene will live with me for some while.

I HATE the Evil Dead franchise, but I actually quite liked this.
I could've done without the silly tacked on start and end, I think going straight into the hellish nightmare would've worked much better.
I found the whole thing pretty suspenseful and full of dread, though it was very gory which I don't usually like.
3.5/5
