Not really, they’re more like cinema seats with a cup holder etc. Blimey, that sounds encouraging. I'd go for more concert floor seats at the O2 Arena than cinema, but still plenty more room than most of the West End!

Actually the cup holder might be on the back of the seat in front, but I (6’4”, thighs like oak trees) was perfectly comfy.

They just wrote on Insta that the recording will be released on 8th of November, with the first two tracks released tomorrow (Sept. 27th). Exciting!

Having two different records and CD versions with different track lists is dumb!

So it's a bit weird. It's highlights only. But there is a double vinyl running at 63 minutes (so literally about 4/7 the length of the show) that they are not calling highlights. And a single CD that they are calling highlights and which has fewer tracks than the double vinyl. Even though the double vinyl would fit on a single CD, being a total of 63 minutes. It's even shorter than the 1993 recording!
Real shame IMHO - I would have loved a complete recording. I do think it is inline with what the majority fanbase (aka not MT geeks) want/need/would buy; so a commercial decision no doubt. And the Facebook masses seem delighted.
But yeah - was really hoping for a complete. Glad there is a cast recording, but somewhat gutted by it's brevity.

Have you never heard of a phased release? Perhaps the complete recording will come in future... Let's wait and see... Think how many shows have done this previously... Okay, I doubt we will get "Symphonic Starlight" anytime soon (though wouldn't that be cool in a cheesy orchestral pops type way?) but never say never...

I dunno I kinda see sung through musicals as two pieces of music an hour ish long each; that's the skill of a complete piece of music and it's associated narrative - so I just love it when they are not carved up. So many iconic moments between the main "songs." But yeah, still thrilled to get a cast recording at all as it's not exactly a given for UK ALW revivals!

Drat. Still no Laughing Stock. Also, why is Hydrogen placed where it is on the tracklist?
What’s the betting the other ‘single’ is I Am Me?!

I wonder what will be on offer with digital downloads regarding the new album? Be nice to think it would be the Deluxe version with the additional tracks.

I assume it's because physical media is becoming not a lot more than a novelty with the general public.... but with musical theatre fans who prefer that physical media, why would they just have the CD be the highlights?

The "Hydrogen" release sounds awful to me, they've just gone and ruined it....

They've done an excellent job with Hydrogen - better than Crazy which sounds like it was recorded on my phone.

They've done an excellent job with Hydrogen - better than Crazy which sounds like it was recorded on my phone. It sounds like one of those cover recordings of show soundtracks that are usually accompanied by ‘the West End Musical Theatre Orchestra’ or some other random concoction Talk about singing by numbers. Where’s the life that’s been sucked out of it?

Orchestration, style and production wise they sound very similar to the two recent (ish) singles RUG released for Bad Cinderella Broadway (title track and I Know I Have A Heart).
Hydrogen as suspected is a single version. They are definitely trying to sound contemporary (as they were on the above).
The Hydrogen hook deffo has more oomph and musical theatre zhuzh in the show itself IMHO. But it’s a pleasant single.

Listening critically, Crazy feels unmastered. Vocals are really loud in comparison to the rest of the mix which is really quiet... worryingly so? Have they uploaded the wrong files?!
Also yes, they're definitely trying to make this sounds like a pop album rather than a cast recording.

I don't get why they often try to go for a more mainstream kind of appeal in the production, especially for music from a bonkers show like Starlight. Out of context of the show, lyrically Hydrogen sounds absolutely mental. 😅

Well it’s a “tale old as time” as far as English language recordings being single/concept focussed and not what one hears in the theatre.
The 1984 OLC sounded nothing like how the show sounded at the AV in the 1980’s and contained several single only arrangements.
The 1987 USA one was full on concept and bore no resemblance to Broadway.
The 1993 “new” London cast did bear resemblance to the 1990’s AV sound but was edited to oblivion and misses half the show.
And now here we are in 2024.
The Gods most definitely do not want us to have a complete English Starlight recording with the exact same theatre arrangements!
If you can cope listening in German however Bochum has two complete recordings which are absolutely epic. 1989 which arrangements wise sounds like the 1980’s original AV. And 2013 which is my personal Starlight fave album of all time. The 25th anniversary version. Both sensational!
