OK, so I know I shouldn’t expect much from anything Nicolas Cage does these days, least of all a film with him playing Dracula and Nicholas Hoult playing the title character but good Lord this was abysmal, possibly the worst film I’ve ever seen in a cinema (and not in a Blackbird-esque so dreadful it’s funny sense)
Proceedings for some unknown reason have been updated to modern day New Orleans with some super-dated wire fu fighting and some diabolically poor CGI blood spilling: the whole thing just became boring after twenty minutes or so: the basic idea was obviously inspired by the original Dracula starring Bela Lugosi as they have taken some of the scenes from that and stuck Cage and Hoult into them using CGI but Cage was just so…super wrong (not helped by his Lugosi/Ray Reardon hairstyle, selection of top hats and Camden market jewellery and an accent that went all round the globe)
Thankfully I didn’t pay to see it but my soul feels besmirched by having seen it 😝

Count me as similarly disappointed. Billed as a comedy horror but nothing actually funny. Clearly lovingly made with plenty of references to past Dracula movies (the Browning version and Lee in Hammer) but the decision to transform this into a Renfield-as-Marvel-superhero movie rather than a horror skewered my interest. I liked Cage's camping it up as the Count, Hoult is alway watchable, but that's about it for positives. Trite dialogue, and feeling much longer than its 93-minute run-time. Two stars.
