The audience is driving me up the wall. I know it's a celebration of musical theatre (and they're no doubt encouraged to look enthusiastic because they're on telly), but all I can see is dancing, singing, phones out, arm waving etc. I'm willing to bet half that lot will end up in the Bad Behaviour thread at some time in the not too distant future! it was actively encouraged. They spent a good 45 minutes hyping it all up before filming started. Good heavens! That is hyping it up with a vengeance!

A lacklustre effort from Ain't Too Proud.
Voices seem very weak

Hamilton "first time on UK TV?" Surely not. Didn't they perform at the Oliviers?

Went on to my local theatres site to see what's on when, queue system in place and 150 people waiting. No show has gone on sale today so assume this programme is having the desired affect

Good programming a week before the Oliviers. I like how they're not dumbing down MT; Jason Manford is a champion of the art form and yeah. Making me a bit emosh. Just the tonic after losing a friend today.

This tribute to Andrew Lloyd Webber is particular hard to watch right now. Deserved, though.

Yes it made me surprisingly emotional, his shows are such a big reason why I got into theatre I thought on the whole it was a great celebration and promotion of theatre and seems to have done something to help the box office. Certainly better than the oliviers Bbc2 did a condolences announcement to alw before the start of the bbc2 special on now

Well that was a good couple of hours of entertainment (beats Ant and Dec anyday). It had its faults, namely the camera angles, but a great advert for musical theatre in the UK and, I am sure, it will create sales around the country especially for regional theatre. What more could you want on a Saturday night than a bit of Mr Balls and Maz Murray.

I think my first three musicals were Starlight, Cats and Joseph. I’m not sure I which order.

] Nathania being incredible yet again. She needs to be much more well known and get some bigger roles She graduated in 2021, went straight into Be More Chill, then into Les Mis, she’s done pretty well so far, and I’d say Eponine is pretty big. Why did a few acts mime on this? So odd.

Well done to the BBC and the National Lottery for that. People can pick holes in it if they want, but a 95 minute tribute to musical theatre on prime time Saturday night TV should be applauded. And obviously intended to give the theatre industry a much needed boost. Excellent.

Would be nice if SOLT took the same route with the Oliviers and put them on a primetime slot rather than 10pm-ish on a Sunday night.

Why would they mime? They are trained actors not pop singers who can't even hold a tune. They did mime, Ain’t Too Proud mimed their whole set, people on twitter said Melody did too but I’d have to watch it back.

I don't think the oliviers would have the same impact. Awards in general are declining in popularity with viewers, and there is so much inflated filler and things most don't care about with award shows. Plus the whole self congratulatory nature. They also only feature shows that are up for awards or opened (and even already closed) that year
This kind of celebration with big number after big number of shows people can see I think has more energy and impact.
