I do not know the original material, but will certainly now seek it out. Love any new JRB show! He has quite a few new ones on the go now, what with this, THE CONNECTOR and FAREWELL MY CONCUBINE.

Skip the film but read the book. It is an amazing novel based on a true story.

I have seen both the film and read the book, of which I still have copy but in truth, it was so long ago that I can't remember the actual story. I vaguely remember a black transvestite, a death/murder and an underlying gay thread of the storyline
I do remember that the film had Kevin Spacey, Jack Thompson and (a very young- in fact I think one of his first roles) Jude Law.
For me, Jason Robert Brown is the new Sondheim and I love most of his work. I even m
I have seen him in concert, twice at The Palladium. I also saw the concert of Honyemoon in Vegas with Samantha Barks, Arthur Darvil, Norm Lewis and Maxwell Caufield.
The Last 5 Years, The Bridges of Madison County, Parade, Honeyoon in Vegas- all (simply) brilliant!

I have seen both the film and rad the book, of which I still have copy but in truth, it was so long ago that I can't remember the actual story. I vaguely remember a black transvestite, a death/murder and an underlying gay thread of the storyline Yes, the characters alone make this a very interesting project and all of them were real people (I met the late Lady Chablis back in the late 90's in Savannah. She was a trip). But curious who they will cast for these roles: - Jim Williams : Eccentric and slightly closeted gay antiques dealer and owner of Mercer House (Johnny Mercer's home) whom the story revolves around - Danny Hansford : Male hustler who was referred to by a certain socialite as "a good time not yet had by all" who lived with Jim - Lady Chablis : Very popular drag artiste formerly known as "Frank" with the mouth of a sailor and courage that knew no bounds - Minerva : A voodoo priestess who tries to connect Jim with one the characters whom he is accused of murdering (no spoilers here I hope) using black magic - Emma Kelly : Locally famous piano playing old-age pensioner known as The Lady of 1,000 songs who drank like a fish and drove like a demon - Joe Odom : Local hustler and singer who performed with girlfriend Mandy but was "not entirely heterosexual" Can you tell I'm curious? The book is a MUST.
