Hmm, that bit stood out to me too. I'm hoping it's some kind of pre show setup but I was sure she said "during" which made me do a double take. Caught a bit of Danny Mac on Sunday Brunch this past week. My main takeaway was him mentioning it being a big production that they're putting a lot of money into and joking about how he doesn't know how they're going to make their money back with such a short run in Chichester. Really, really excited for this one. Maybe less so the idea of food and pints being sold inside the theatre? But we'll see how that part plays out! There is a food stand outside the theatre that’s basically just adding to the usual cafe fare with some hot food. Inside (foyer) you can buy popcorn. I noticed tubs of popcorn sold pre-show inside (and lots of signs encouraging people to get an ice cream even though there is no interval) but it being a Chichester audience I didn’t hear anyone eating popcorn throughout on the side I was on! This is very well cast, very well sung. I was not enthusiastic about the staging when I walked in but the show won me back. (If someone could let me know the spoiler text code please I’ll say more!) I don’t think three balladeers worked too well, I’d much rather have seen just Liam Tamne sing it as his voice is glorious and as much as I love Lizzy Connolly her diction wasn’t clear enough with such quick lines a few times and she got lost in the mix.

I appreciate the info, thank you! I guess I shouldn't have really worried about it given it's Chichester! Looking forward to seeing it in a few days. The website lists the running time as "to be confirmed" - I'm assuming it was the usual 1 hr 45/50?

If anyone's doing stage door, please could they ask Danny if he's doing Sunset in September?

He wouldn't say even if he was until its not embargoed.
I'd be surprised if they go for him though

Seeing this tomorrow and couldn’t be more excited. It’s always been my favourite Sondheim show.

(Sorry if I've missed this) has the running time been announced? I am seeing it Saturday week and need to book a train there and back- assuming of course that there's no friggin' train strikes!

Does anyone know if they're selling any merchandise? And if so, what?

Chichester rarely does merch so I'd be surprised, especially for such a short run.

Saw it last night. 1hr 50. I've only seen this show in studio theatres before, and wondered if it would work in a large venue like this but it does. Large and talented cast and brilliant design which actually make this large theatre seem more intimate. A couple of duff performances but many really good ones. I nearly always leave Sondheim musicals feeling that the book doesn't quite work and felt this again last night. It's takes a great director to really make these shows fly. Audience reaction was great. A hit for Chichester I think.

Luckily I'm only a 10 min drive from CFT. Hope you had a good visit. Really enjoyed this. I’d love it to transfer but not sure there would be a theatre to take it. My husband really liked it too - and he’s not a Sondheim fan - I don’t know how we can be married lol. The set made it easy to follow as I was worried he’d get a bit lost with what’s going on, but he didn’t.

Excellent production. Beautifully sung and acted. Would have preferred one balladeer. Loved the set.
