I really struggle with the casting decisions for Hedwig as a role. As much as Hedwig is a trans role, their transition is not a trans journey as such, but more on of necessity to leave east Berlin and move to the USA. I think John Cameron Mitchell refers to Hedwig as a genderqueer character and not trans.
I have trans friends who I have discussed this with who have no issue with any gender playing Hedwig, as their story in the play isn't representational of the trans community.
Personally I'd be happy for anyone to play the role as long as they do justice to the character and the piece.

Just got home from seeing this.
It is really good!
Davina was excellent. Great accent and really impressive singing - and energetic dancing, doing so whilst in heels. I was quite moved at the end.
It’s an odd show and sags a little bit towards the end - I think that is the material, not the production. Also I couldn’t hear all the words in the songs - it is quite loud. I must be getting old.
One or two singalong moments for the audience - who were up for a party. On a Tuesday. In Leeds. Who would have thought?
Standing Ovation at the end - well deserved for such a physically impressive performance.
I think she will relax into the part as the run goes on - but she was very good!
About 1hr 40 with no interval.

I truly, truly hope this production has a life outside of the two announced venues. I was supposed to move to Leeds this years and was looking forward to watching the show but we’ve had to put the move back and I’m going to miss it!

Saw this today and agree with all the above, it's a superlative production. I saw the last Broadway version with Michael C Hall and then with JCM himself and I'd say this is a better production. It's better because it's so influenced by the film that it really cements the storytelling and mines all of the thematic elements to crystallise the piece perfectly. Really hope it has a long life and tours further before running in London for a long time.

Well I was really impressed and actually quite moved at the end.
I'd never heard any of it before (or so I thought) so I wasn't really sure what to expect.
Davina is excellent in the role and moved between the heavy rock songs and ballads easily. I especially liked Wicked Little Town which it turned out I had heard before but this version was gorgeous.
I'll be booking a return visit before the Manchester run ends and I hope it gets more life afterwards, it deserves a London run.

Having been at yesterday's matinee and only knowing the "Wig in a box" number prior to watching the show, I had a great afternoon watching this in Manchester's HOME theatre. Having never watched Drag Race, I was unsure what to expect from Divina de Campo, but from her show entrance to the final song, she just owned the stage and what a great singing voice she has got in delivering the musical score which for me was a nice blend of funk, rock and ballads. At the end of the 100-minute show, I came away loving both de Campo and this show and would certainly book to watch it again if it ever came around again in the future.
With a great accompanying video design from Daniel Denton and the 4-piece on stage band which sounded great and Elijah Ferreira as husband Yitzhak worked well with De Campo. This show kept the audience thoroughly entertained. This only issue I had was that at times the band drowned out the singing so it was difficult to hear the vocals at times.

If that doesn’t deserve a transfer I don’t know what does. Closing night tonight, audience well up for it. That final number Midnight Radio “Lift Up Your Hands…” and they did. Powerful and emotional 🙌🏻😭.
I do hope London gets to see it with Divina who totally owns it from their grandiose high camp entrance to that fabulous finale. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

He wasnt involved in the leeds production - sucha shame that the (in my opinion inferior) broadway production has effectively blocked the leeds production from transfering.
