Nikki did confirm online that she left London due to private family reasons that were impacting her mental health.
She was an incredibly strong standby on tour and I think if given the opportunity she would smash it as tour lead!

You know who I’d love to see play Elphaba, Samantha Barks. If she ever moves on from Frozen. She’d be phenomenal.

It's a no vote from me to Kerry or Samantha, please and thank you. And before anyone suggests CHF, that's a please no.

I agree Samantha would be a brilliant Elphaba and looking at her stellar attendance record at Frozen, I’m sure she’d handle the role 8 times a week just fine. I feel like it’s not the sort of thing that would be on her radar right now though (she’s done the Les Mis movie, originated a role on Broadway, originated one in London in a huge musical, I feel like she can do “bigger” things than just being the latest Elphaba). Maybe she could do it for the 20th anniversary or something to make it feel more of an event. I think Courtney Stapleton was fantastic in Beauty and the Beast but I’m not sure if I see her as an Elphaba, I thought her understudy Grace Swaby-Moore had more of an “Elphaba voice”.

Do we think our lead Elphaba will be "recycled" or will they surprise us with a new face like they did with Amy Ross?

Do we think our lead Elphaba will be "recycled" or will they surprise us with a new face like they did with Amy Ross? Who knows these days? Where as once it was a guarantee an Elphaba would be a recycle, in recent years they seem to have switched up the casting with new faces in all productions playing Elphaba, and now returns from approx. 13 years ago! It could be anyone, all bets are open.

Get Kerry Ellis back. You know you want it. I know the above is a joke; the days of Ellis being in Wicked are well in the past now. As much I like Ellis (and she made the singing seem effortless years ago when I saw her as Elphaba), I doubt she could sing the role as written now. Her voice still has range, but it has declined somewhat and the timbre has become much more nasal, I think. I loved her in Anything Goes, but this singing was much less ‘full throttle’ than the demands of Wicked. In her younger days, her power was phenomenal.

Hiba Elchikhe and Emma Kingston would be lovely Elphabas. Although I’m not sure if they’d be considered too old now…

I can't imagine Kerry would want to do it. She has school aged boys.
I think we will see someone new.

Emma Kingston would tear the roof off - or a former Heathers lead like Christina Bennington or Ailsa Davidson possible. Or maybe Christine Allado given Michael McCabe produced The Prince of Egypt.
As they’d probably not need a ‘name’ to tour with, it’d also be nice to see new talent get a chance to make a splash.

There was a lot of enthusiasm around Ailsa in her Heathers run so that's a possibility - but whilst Christina could probably sing it, her Heathers and (especially) BOOH performances show that shes not really an actress

I loved Christina later on in that Heathers run. She's still one of my favourite Veronica's and I feel like she could be a decent Elpheba.
Ailsa's heathers performance I've only seen from the proshot and I was very disappointed. Apparently it was very different from her usual on-stage performance so willing to give her the benefit of the doubt.

They didn't even get her to do a second contract in town, they certainly arent going to be shipping her off on tour which is arguably a harder go than just doing it in London I don’t think her attendance had anything to do with a second contract to be honest. I think from the start of her contract they had the idea that lucie and Helen would only do a year as they wanted to bring Alexia back and get the first black Glinda for next year which they’ve done. Diversity etc

There was such a fanfare with Lucie joining the show after 11 years of trying that I don't believe they would let her go after a year personally.
And I think we are kidding ourselves if her attendance hasn't contributed to not doing a second contract

What do we think the chances are of this tour extending to cities such as Belfast, Plymouth, Glasgow, Aberdeen etc. It has never been to Belfast so i'm unsure if it would fit into the Grand Opera House but the other three were visited on the original tour but have never been revisited.

It wouldn't fit into the Grand Opera House, it's the same reason The Lion King just does Dublin because the Bord Gais is the only theatre that's big enough.

Peter Kay has dates for 2024 and 2025, I'm in good health but even I wouldn't risk booking for anything that far in advance.

I imagine Laura Harrison will be Elphaba standby. I'm not entirely sure what other position she would be leaving London for.

I imagine Laura Harrison will be Elphaba standby. I'm not entirely sure what other position she would be leaving London for. That would be very deserved, honestly. I've seen stronger Elphabas vocally but I enjoy her interpretation and she's been very solid covering Lucie, far more so than the actual standby.

I've been really impressed with Laura over the last few months. She has been incredibly consistent covering for Lucie (and Amy). Based on audios online, she is improving every single show.
I imagine if she is the standby for the tour, she will only get better and better as the vocals become more fluid for her! She will also have more time to develop the acting side of the role, putting her own unique stamp on it.

Laura for Elphaba. She was robbed in town, she should have replaced Lucie. She’s done over 45 shows which is unheard of as a 1st cover. She shouldn’t be standby, she should be on every night
