What an anticlimax! Thought it was something exciting being announced In a city where one of the main theatres is clogged up with The Lion King until March, while the main alternative is Jason Manford in panto, this is quite exciting!

I love the Go-Go’s and it’s unlikely I’ll ever see them live in the UK so this is the next best thing.

Whilst this will undoubtedly be fun, I just don't think any of the Hope Mill shows I've seen have been...excellent.
I get it's Fringe, but they always feel quite cheap productions to me

There have been some stinkers for sure. Jerry Springer looked like a primary school project. But there have been some very good looking productions too, considering the limitations of size of budget and space. Certainly no worse than the Southwark Playhouse, probably better based on what I’ve seen at SWP. .

…they tend to get great casts which always help. I don’t like the cast recording of this, and it doesn’t grab me despite being a Go-gos fan since 6th form (a reallllly long time ago) so I probably won’t.

I had We’ve Got the Beat stuck in my head for ages when I watched Fast Times at Ridgemont High a few months back. Other than that I don’t think I know any of their songs, so another one I can skip.
“Head over Heels” just makes me think of the Tears for Fears song. 🤷♂️

I've never heard I'd The Go Go's to be honest and when I saw the poster I thought it was a fictitious band.

I’m wondering if they might try and shoehorn another Belinda Carlisle song into the show as her solo career pretty much eclipsed everything the Go-Go’s did in the UK.

Oh. Haha. I thought the Go-Gos were one of those countless 50's and 60's bands that are so popular for jukebox musicals.
Never heard of them but definitely heard of Belinda Carlisle. "Heaven is a Place on Earth" was part of the soundtrack of my 80s youth. Still I have zero interest in seeing this.

It has a historical setting but a modern pop sound…hmmmm….sound familiar?

This is going to be a hard sell, surely. The Go Go's were never a thing in the UK. Very American act.

I love the Go-Go’s and it’s unlikely I’ll ever see them live in the UK so this is the next best thing. I got to see them earlier this year on their last tour before breaking up for good so all the ladies can concentrate on solo projects. Great nostalgia. Having said that, and loving the music of my youth, the show's plot seems at cross purposes with a band that started out in the LA punk scene of the late 70s. Intrigued.

They haven't broken up for good, they were due to support Billy Idol on his tour over the Summer.

I remember this being a horrible musical (read - not to my taste) when I saw this in New York. But that is an excellent cast, including Luke Bayer and Iz Hesketh (I'd completely missed their name change). Will have to see if I end up near Manchester over that time period.

I'm afraid after seeing Hesketh in LB I will try my hardest to avoid that casting. I really didn't like Luke in Millennials or Rent either, I know he has a lot of fans so perhaps there's something I'm missing but this isn't a casting that's got me excited unfortunately. Still, good to see something different being put on I guess!

I understand why it’s done from a marketing perspective and it’s potentially arguable that it was “much loved” on Broadway by a select few, but does anyone else get frustrated when flop musicals that received broadly terrible reviews are marketed as “critically acclaimed hits”?

I only hope that the production media team have seized control of Hesketh's social media. Otherwise they risk the show being tainted by more toxic postings

Will wait for “Iz” to put out a statement regarding whether this musical is “for me” or not before I book I think…

Let's hope the songs sit more comfortably within Iz's range this time, the screeching in Legally Blonde wasn't fun for the ears.

On the Friday night I'm going in February, there appear to be 10 tickets sold so far. That's eight more than the Thursday night performance 24 hours earlier.

I haven’t been to the HM since before Covid. The stuff they’re programming since reopening just doesn’t appeal. I think the last thing I saw was Rent on line. Didn’t rate it. I did book for Cinderella towards the end of the run just because it was R&H but got covid myself so that didn’t happen. I’m afraid after reading the wiki entry for this one it sounds dreadful and I don’t know the music of the Go Go’s so that doesn’t swing it. I think it’s an odd choice.

What I like about this board is all the positivity when something new is announced... 🙃
