To be fair, at Crewe station I've seen weirder than a hedgehog in a bra I'm sure.

This sounds like a brilliant episode of a sitcom. To me it's beginning to sound like Alan Bennett dialogue. "I'd just boarded the 14.42 at Crewe when there was this ungodly squealing. It was a woman with a hedgehog in her bra." "Oh, HER. I expect she was just keeping it warm".

I've never understood the Mary Poppins fuss - I think its something to do with my general apathy towards Julie Andrews.

general apathy towards Julie Andrews. I don't dislike her, but I disliked the film as a kid and still do (apart from the brief hunt sabbing, that was cool). Bossy stranger coming into the house making you tidy up, political wife a figure of fun, kitsch schmalzy sugariness and whimsey, the scarily overenergetic, seemingly endless "aren't we having fun, boys and girls" type dance routines. Nope. Ditto Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. And Poppins' offspring Nanny McPhee is even worse - the 'better' the kids are the less 'ugly' she gets, while the much younger housemaid is given elocution lessons to make her an acceptable bride for the widower. Progressive messages you've got there, Emma T.

While I liked Fantastic Beasts: The Crime of Grindlewald, I do think JK Rowling needs a co-writer to help her out for the next film, she's a great storyteller but she's not a screenwriter. The first one was on tv earlier today. I got about an hour in and had to give up because it was so dull and unengaging.

~appears~
The Jackson 5 were pretty bad. Idk why but their songs just grate on me, maybe due to Michael's jarring child voice. Thankfully his solo work is a different story, but his early stuff was... eww. So I can't wait to sit in Motown the Musical and have to suffer through five of their songs.

Following on from the Jackson 5, I personally think Michael Jackson is one of the most overrated singers in the world. As a live performer, for his time, he was unbeatable in the shows he would put on, but vocally he wasn't as great as some make out.
To add, I find Michael one of the most fascinating people in the world to this day, and still watch documentaries and interviews about him just because I find his life so interesting!

Paul MCartney can’t sing, never could. Of course I would have married him when I was 16. Not so much now.

I agree, he frequently sounded like he had combined hiccups and constipation. His songs were mainly not up to much either.

seriously thinking on leaving the MTAS FB group: every time someone discusses unpopular opinions the whole thread gets deleted and nobody is allowed anything negative. Its one thing to write negative things and another thing to post rude things. What a bullsh.. to think the world is just peachy and ☀️. Lets build a circle, hold hands and dance around it. 🙈

Actually, The Beatles weren't anything special vocally. They had great songs, for sure, and great presence, and knew how to put on a show. But their voices weren't that great.

- No one in either Rent or Dogfight deserves any sympathy - they're all awful people. Possibly excluding Collins. - I actually think the whole Eponine-Marius guff could be excised, and the structure of Les Mis would lose nothing except a standard talent show song. In fact I sort of hate this whole subplot? I know this makes me a wretch. - I find Idina Menzel's singing voice very hard to listen to. - Katie Hall's singing voice is weak. - Last year's Exit the King at the Nash was one of the best things I've ever seen - certainly one of the most moving. - The Sound of Music, Chitty, and Chicago are ALL better in their film incarnations. The stage shows are (or were, when they were around) shambolic. - Corpse! by Gerald Moon is the finest farce in existence. - Impossible to qualify or prove, but the idea that Kit Marlowe would have been a better playwright than Shakespeare had he lived is total rubbish. His plays are uniformly terrible and there is nothing moving or spectacular in the language. Even Titus Andronicus has some fabulous lines. - Speaking of which... Titus Andronicus is the best Shakespeare play

I'm a Fabs worshipper and agree with you. None of them were brilliant vocalists or musicians, it's more about how they innovated in terms of ideas, songwriting and arrangements.

Did you watch the BBC 4 series about rock music that had an episode each about drums, bass, and guitar. They made a pretty compelling argument for McCartney’s bass skills - though of course it is hard to separate his musicianship from the innovations in his composition.
