I will share my opinion which is probably very unpopular but I do not like wicked or phantom. I have heard the songs and am not a fan of them. You will probably say that I need to see them and then I will understand but I wouldn't. I like classic musicals like Rogers and Hammerstein or anything Sondiem but am not a huge Lloyd Webber fan. I knew some songs from Phantom and yet gave it the benefit of the doubt because my friend wanted to go. It's far worse live. Far, far worse. I hated it. Until I saw Spamalot, I thought I was alone.

In 40 years of theatre attending this is the dullest of times!
Shopping and F****** is coming back and People, Places and Things has just cleaned up the awards.
These aren’t drama, they are reality TV put on stage.
(It’s true, I feel much better now. Hopefully this hasn’t already come up. I got halfway through the thread and had to get this off my chest.)

Half the problem with the recent Ghost tour (Sarah Harding) is the original material. A good actor and singer can cover up the flaws in a piece. GHOST is average at best.
*why am i so dramatic today*

I think Patti LuPone is not a good singer. All she does is shout The singing is fine, the acting is the problem... I thought she was great in Penny Dreadful on the telly...?

I hate West Side Story. I saw the movie. I saw the Broadway revival and I still can't stand it. It even make me sort-of-hate the actors in it. I don't even know why.

It's just the wrong Rachel. They should have gotten Rachel John instead.

The singing is fine, the acting is the problem... I thought she was great in Penny Dreadful on the telly...? I too thought she was great in Penny Dreadful and also American Horror Story. Over the years I have seen her in Evita, Les Miserables and Sunset Boulevard and found her acting and singing stellar on each occasion.

I really didn't care for Ramin Karimloo's portrayal of the Phantom and find it annoying as hell when people compare every single actor that's ever played the Phantom (including Crawford) to him. Same goes for Sierra Boggess; she has a beautiful voice, but I've seen better portrayals of Christine.

I hated the singing in the "Les Mis" film. - I much prefer live on stage or a recording with a big orchestra.

I don't like Dave Willetts though.

Ramin Karimloo is not a good actor and his singing is not very precise either. He was a good Valjean on Broadway, but he had been playing the role for many many months... his first London stint was disgusting.

Almost scared to admit this but I'm not a huge fan of Colm Wilkinson. He seems a nice enough guy and is obviously very talented but I'm just not a fan of his Valjean 😮 Sorry!
I also hate The Lion King and very nearly walked out at the interval (on reflection I wish I had)!

He has strange pronunciation and makes weird faces while singing. Not to mention he always sounds like he's crying. But I have to admit I kinda like him anyway

Everyone I know really loves Waitress. I watched the film and was fairly horrified with the subplot where a woman is convinced to go out on a date with a man who'd stalked her, and the fairly trite ending to the main plot too. I listened to a couple of the songs from the musical and there's a slight country tinge to the songs and I hate country music with a passion. I'm currently hoping that if a transfer happens I won't have to go see it with my friends who already love it because no one wants to be that person. Oops.
